It has not been many years since our 'music media' hop, skipped, and jumped through phonographs, reel-to-reel, 8-track tape, cassette tape, CD, and ultimately (as of this writing) digitally stored on devices and/or 'the cloud'. With each new emerging technology, we could barely imagine what was to come next. Ours is a tangible world, one in which it is so tough to 'think unthinkable' thoughts; imagine the imaginable, and especially 'dream the impossible', as we are encouraged by motivational speakers.
How ever does the Lord expect us to 'think on His ways', or apply the 'what would Jesus do?' hypothetic rhetoric? Isaiah 55:8-9 even reminds us; "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. (9) For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.", which further confirms that what we think... ain't all that special! Now, I am not taunting you or evoking ridicule... merely helping to remind you (and myself) that the Faith Walk with the Lord is no easy task, no simple undertaking, and certainly no cop-out in life (as naysayers would have you believe). Rather, thinking His thoughts requires patience (waiting on the Lord), diligence (continue waiting on the Lord, and surely sacrifice (I did say 'waiting on the Lord', right?).
Now, lest you conclude that I'm suggesting that you merely need to wait... and God's thoughts will eventually be your thoughts, the better/deeper answer is found in Psalms 116:17, which states; "I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord." That is to say, that along with waiting, diligence, and sacrifice, wrap those times in your 'call upon the Lord' prayer and your spirit is now postured to 'hear' His voice... maybe audibly, maybe in a sign, maybe just in that good old fashioned 'peace came over my soul' experience that comes with a close fellowship with Him!
Now 'that' is something to think about, and while you process through His leading, consider that Colossians 4:2 tells us; "Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;", which is to say that 'His thoughts' is not a destination, but a journey.
See? I Thought You'd Think Thoughtfully!
