I have a self-image. I know I can physically see myself in a mirror or reflection or photo, but my self image is much more of a character, a being, maybe even just a spirit/soul kind of presence... it's part of what makes up my persona, in that this self image is both who I am, but also who I want to be 'when I grow up', as it were. Having been saved way back in '78, my Faith Walk has been fairly consistent and lately with much more purpose, determination, and a bit of childish anticipation and excitement for how the Lord is working through me, and in me. So, I've seen what I was, what I've become, and where I am going. See, 2 Corinthians 3:18 tells us; "But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.", which is a great reminder that our self image is not selfish, but an image of the Spirit of the Lord working in our lives.
Sounds odd, I know; a self image is actually His image? No... the Lord is not taking over your life, cloning Jesus in you, or even trying to get another savior on this planet. Rather, as we walk in fellowship with Him, we adapt to His leading, His mannerisms, His ways; becoming 'like' Him. Galatians 5:25 reminds us that; "If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.", which is another perfect reminder that our self image is not a physical one, but spiritual one.
Yours may be tweaked, distorted, damaged, or maybe even non-existant. Looking unto the Lord will quickly get your focus off yourself, and help heal your distortion, help remedy any embarrassment you may have from you past. In fact, Psalms 34:5 reads; "They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.", which is to say that looking unto the Lord will change your own self image, your selfish perspective, your "it's all about me" concerns in life.
How?
Jesus alone. Your faith in Him, your trust in Him, your hope rested on His saving grace... see, 2 Corinthians 5:21 states; "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." and on that you can turn your face to Him, turn your goals, quests, and even desires to Him. When you keep your eyes on Him, your self image will be revised... He will make you into a new creation!
