"Thunderous Sounding Wonders"

In 1683 through the Wienderwld they came.
To stop the siege of Vienna, was their aim.
The ottoman Turks failed to realize
To leave that area unguarded was not wise.

The Wienderwald is a 'no man's land'
Dense forests, no traveler understands.
Polish King, Jan Gobieski came through.
Christians Hope was now in clear view.

He led the Winged Hussars, almost fantasy.
This thick armored tight-knit lanced cavalry
Had feathered wooden arches on their backs.
That made a thunderous sound on attack.

In perhaps the largest charge in history
Over 35,000 charged to bring victory.
What a sight their foe had to behold
Of such might they were never told.

The Hussar's Flanks would close together
To form a solid wall of armor much better.
Each pointing their nineteen foot lance.
This didn't give enemies much chance.

These winged warriors were well trained.
From mistakes they adeptly refrained.
After they would make a penetrating pass
They regrouped and would do like the last.

150,000 enemy ran scared and confounded.
Their confusion and fear was well founded.
They left jewel studded gold sabers galore.
Treasures were left to be seen nevermore.

Jan Sobieski was deemed Europe's Savior.
He got victor's spoils and much favor.
He sounded a little like Caesar's Thunder,
"I came, I saw, and with God I conquered!"

The Hussars Wings sounded like thunder!
The enemy gasped in awe and wonder!
The God of Battle rattled defilers of His Name.
The Turks left infinite riches, and ran in shame.

The victorious soldiers booty was inestimable,
So prodigious and extraordinary and surreal.
To thank and honor God they did so capable.
The Lord's Glorious Victory was so very real.
