"Miracle Needed Time"

The thousands of armed British ships invasion force
Entered N Y Harbor with 32,000 troops on their course.
The same Providence which has in so many instances
Appeared before, went on to afford aid in this resistance.

American troops went to N Y to fortify Brooklyn Heights.
George Washington's 20,000 men were hardly enough.
On August 27, 1776, 10,000 British landed out of sight.
Here is what The Lord did; the going got really tough!

It was the largest battle of the entire Revolutionary War.
The British did not attack by sea as at Bunker Hill before.
Marching all night long, the British made a surprise attack.
They forced The Continental Army with sea to their back.

"Charge, you brave 400!"
6X's they did into the British Line!
"Charge another time!"
"We must not be dismayed.
Forward again Brave Brigade!
Lord, Please come to our aid!"
Again and again they tried,
No time to question why,
It was do or die!
These true patriots would not cave.
These were men of the finest kind.
This Loyal Maryland Regiment gave
Others time for needed cover to find.

That night, Washington made a truly desperate decision
To evacuate across the East River, God's Plan Revision.
It took all night and went into an unusually foggy morning.
Fog gave the needed time for all to escape without warning.

No one could see whose face it was in order to really tell.
This peculiar providential occurrence timed perfectly well
Prevented the loss of half remaining who would have fell.
It was a modern day miracle given from The God of Israel.

General Washington, was on the last unnoticed boat to go.
The Hand of Providence in this has been so conspicuous.
This undergoing, a most favorable vicissitude, was for us.
Miracle needed time is there, when victory's hope is low.
