Bus trip / Bad trip

It was a warm and sunny morning as we started out for town

It was good to see her smiling for she often wore a frown

She hugged me and she kissed me my bus trip was such fun

But when we got to journeys end the nightmare had begun

For waiting at the bus stop was a man that I knew well

He often came to meet her for drugs he had to sell

She passed across some money she had stolen from a friend

The packet that he gave her brought our closeness to an end

I sat forgotten in my pram while she laid bare her arm

And although I'm just a toddler I know that needles harm

Oh Mummy don't forget me I already start to fear

As through the streets you wheel me I wish I wasn't here

Yes this is my abysmal life but its all the life I know

I often look with envy as other mothers show

Their little children all spruced up all clean and tidy too

I know it's drugs that does this, it isn't really you

Now all you people looking on, this really isn't fair

If you saw Mummy off the drugs you wouldn't stand and stare

When some of Grannies friends we see they often pass us by

I know it hurts my Mummy as I've often seen her cry

Mummy's quite relaxed now as through the streets we go

She meets her mates and I'm forgotten as they hurry to and fro

It's home time now so to the bus we quickly make out way

Mummy's on a different trip, this is when I need to pray

Oh I know she shouldn't have started she knows that as well

But it is not how she started; it's how to ditch this life of hell

She tells me all her secrets when we lie awake in bed

I know I should be sleeping but it eases Mummy's head.
