" Pain Does Not Equal Shame "
It is a deceitful saying that your past no longer affects you. If that were to be true we would no longer remember all the lessons we've learned. From the simplest of things as learning to ride a bike. To the difficult reality of pain. If our understanding of past experiences don't affect us then why do we know how to respond to similar situations? This position is unreasonable and quite impossible. Some of us might wish and have even prayed that the memories of our past will be erased. To us who are in Christ we mustn't confuse our sins being washed away with our past being washed away. The sea of forgetfulness contains our sins not our memories. Though death has lost it sting, pain can remain in its unwanted place. A face, a smell, a sight, a touch can bring us back to the place of, why does this hurt so much? I don't know about you, but I still cry from the abuse and hurt I endured in my life. No it's not a dwelling state; in which, I remain. Instead it's moments when something triggers the neuro sensors in my brain. As they communicate the message of remember that day. When you are in this place do not hide in shame for the Lord inclines his ear to you and does not hide his face. It is in His grace that we can we weep then smile. Feel sorrow then joy. And fear can be defeated by His peace.
There is an unscriptural theology that has infiltrated the church. That says to the hurting believer your faith isn't strong enough. As if tears and grief are promised to cease. I guess this doctrine is one the disciples weren't grounded in. It seems David forgot when he constantly cried out in grief that God's prosperity freed him from such things. And Paul didn't trust enough for the removal of his thorn. The reason they didn't and why we shouldn't is because no such promise exists. It is a distorted view to teach and one rooted in pride and shame.
So I say to you my brother, my sister, my child, my pastor and elders. It is ok if you find yourself reliving the pain of the past. For it only magnifies Christ who carried you those days, months and years. His glory was there with every tear. His strength was present preventing you from giving up. His peace was there as he comforted you and lifted you up. It is a moment for some and longer for others. Yet the same grace is given to the strong and the weak. The teacher and the student, the parent and the child. All have access into the same throne of grace. Where a contrite spirit knows mercy will always be obtained. So that never will you be put to shame because you have trusted in his Holy name.
In Christ,

These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world."
