Thoughts from II Kings chapter 17,
Amos chapter 9
and Proverbs chapter 16.
AFTER I AM GONE
If there should be any
report made of me,
what would the story tell,
what would the pen detail?
Would it be,
”She always did right
in the Lord’s sight,”
OR would they write,
“She did evil in God’s sight?”
The choice of what it will be
is up to no one else but me.
As I live each day
and choose my way,
I write my history!
AS HUMANS ON THIS EARTH
it’s our propensity, to be caught in
the thickets of "acceptable sins."
Soon, it is much easier
to live therein than to struggle
perpetually, in effort to live free
from the seven deadly sins,
that plague you and me.
"Acceptable misbehaviors"
made common by their use,
dulls our sensitivities
and gives us this excuse,
“Why, everyone is doing it!”
Then we resign ourselves
continuing therein,
caught in the thickets of
“acceptable sins.”
OH DEAR HOLY SPIRIT,
shine Your Light on me
exposing my dark places
causing them to flee,
and by the power of Your Light
rebuild and purify
so that I may be,
without a doubt,
righteous in Your sight!
Confident, confident,
we must never be, when
continuing in sin,
to think we shall be free, saying,
“The evil shall not fall on us,”
that is today’s glowing word;
yet what God says is,
“You will die by the sword!”
AND YET, LET US CONSIDER,
we have a choice to make
to yield ourselves to slothfulness,
that crafty hidden snake,
or yield ourselves to Jesus
in applied self-control.
For the eyes of the Lord
are squinted scanning the Earth
beneath, taking note of righteous
living, so He can bequeath
blessings on those whose
lives are right, in His sight;
and while He looks He sees
those, who to Him will not
bend their knees,
and from them He rescinds
the blessings that He would
have sent.
GOD IS SERIOUS ABOUT HIS LOVE
and His hate of sin.
He expects that we
will see and agree with Him,
for He is far, far wiser than
we will ever be….
the ant does not instruct
the mighty elephant,
unless the ant desires
a painful bashing
from the elephant’s trunk.
The sum total of these thoughts
are here, in this philosophy,
God is God, and you are you,
and I am only me, but
God is righteous, and He’s right,
and He knows what will harm us,
and that thing is sin in His sight.
HE WANTS US TO LIVE LIVES
that are pure and free,
not lives caught in the
thickets of adversity.
The choice is yours,
the choice is mine,
and God’s choice is settled
for all time, therefore,
He will not change His mind!
What are we now to conclude?
Will we ourselves deceive?
Or will we rather with God agree,
and walk off the paths
of adversity onto the paths
of righteousness? That path where
God, our God, our lives may bless
with sure protection, peace and rest.
