Recently I had an interesting exchange of words with an intelligent man presumably from Australia regarding the late
Christine "Chrissy" Amphlett from the rock group The Divinyles.

I recall seeing this video when I was much younger and now part of the lyrics came to mind but I had no idea who sang it or the name of the group. After some research i discovered the artist was Chrissy Amphlett. Chrissy died at age 52 from cancer.

The following is a discussion that hopefully was thought provoking to Warren as well as all who read it hereafter.



ME: It's so sad that a woman like this would lower herself to this level.

Warren552011 She could be quite kind and generous, and deep down had a good heart. She was not perfect. Who is? You said "A woman like this" as if you had any idea of what she was like. She is not responsible for any misconceptions you might have had before watching this video. If you don't like it , don't watch. It's that simple.



Me: Deep down the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Warren552011 Who can know it? Exactly. Which means neither you nor I can be a reliable judge. So why try? Maybe I try to see the good in people whereas you search for the bad. Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone.

ME: God can know it and those with His Spirit search the heart by the word of God. I tell you the truth he that is spiritual judges or discerns all things yet he himself is judged of no man. Did you know by this woman's own testimony she tried to poison her grandfather? Now we know the scripture says out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. By what she confessed she proved she was not a good person at the time and unless she repented she did surely perish.

Warren552011 BTW she was an infant at the time of that incident. She didn't know what she was doing, or why she was doing it. You conveniently left that fact out.

Me: Her bio doesn't say she was an infant does it? I'm thinking she was a teenager or slightly younger. An infant would not know how to poison anybody so I think it is safe to say she was accountable being of age and if you try to harm somebody, in this case her grandfather, then you are guilty of murder in God's eyes. Jesus said if you hate somebody in your heart you are guilty of murder. Is it possible she hated her grandfather?

Warren552011 She said "I can't remember why I did it or if I even realized what I was doing". There was no mention of any animosity towards her grandfather. Only talk of happy times around the piano later on. That's why I think she was just a child. An infant (say up to 5 years old) can do some pretty stupid things without regards for the consequences. I almost poisoned myself at that age. Am I guilty of attempted suicide? If I died, would I be in hell now? She didn't hate her grandfather. If anything she had bad thoughts about her father, but acknowledged that she wasn't being fair and that he was doing his best. Despite all their bickering he was proud of some of her achievements. Like her portrayal of Judy Garland. She was with him near the end of his life. "I don't want to inflict any more pain on my parents" She did her best to repair any broken friendships many years before she passed. Does that sound like a bad person to you?

Me: Well, I only read a little of her life story on Amazon and it sounded like she was brought up in the Christian religion but turned away from the right path. This is very grievous to hear or observe on any level as a follower of the Lord. Childhood issues of rebellion can turn into more serious matters later in life. I'm a perfect example.
What I noticed in this video is Chrissy's overt flaunting of her sexuality with the fishnet stockings and immoral gestures and the lyrics she sort of pouted out....again reflecting that rebellious childhood spirit.
LYRICS (I touch myself-masturbation theme or Pleasure and Pain which seems to describe a kind of S & M S & M defined as an interaction, especially sexual activity, in which one person enjoys inflicting physical or mental suffering on another person, who derives pleasure from experiencing pain.

To address your question. Yes, young children can do some stupid and mean things. Until the heart is purified by faith the seeds of sin are there at birth. David said the wicked go astray from the womb speaking lies and he confessed that he was shaped in iniquity and in sin did his mother conceive him which verifies the doctrine of original sin I believe.

No you wouldn't be guilty of attempted suicide if there was no intent to hurt yourself. You might have died accidentally due to lack of knowledge. Ignorance is not bliss as the saying goes. That's an untruthful statement I think.

Reflecting on my own life I found myself thinking I was pretty good until I carefully looked back and examined my life and all the terrible sinful things I did as a young boy and even later in life. The Lord showed me what a rambunctious spoiled brat I was when I threw dirt clods at my dear great grandmother's house that I was reared in.

I recall telling her that I hoped she would die. After I repented in tears many years later I couldn't believe how wicked I was. Later in life after professing the Christian faith I found myself still guilty of doing things a Christian should never do. I concluded I probably wasn't truly converted. I still had no fear of God. I still loved certain sins and was proud of them.

The Holy Spirit has to convict or convince us of our sins through the law word of God. Sin is a transgression of the law and so we must know and study the law to see if there be ANY wicked way in us as King David said. David sinned in adultery with Bathsheba and the murder of her husband Uriah and if that is all we had to go on we might conclude he died and went to hell but we know he repented and that he was a man after God's own heart. He was a righteous man in other words.

I've heard people cast doubt on his son Solomon because he started out wise but multiplied wives which turned his heart away from God. Some would say that Solomon didn't show the signs of being a righteous man toward the end of his life. This is debatable. Evidence shows that Solomon loved the LORD but that the LORD was angry with Solomon (1 Kings 3:3; 11:9-13.

Regarding Christine "Chrissy" Amphlett only the Lord knows if she belonged to him. I don't know the end of her life story. Seems she attended church at an early age and was taught the truth but rebelled against it and was ambivalent about religion. Katy Perry came from a Christian home but wanted to be successful like Amy Grant and it didn't happen until she sold her soul to the Devil. I would suspect this rebellion (a sin like witchcraft according to the God's word) can be found in many rock stars. It's a very sad thing in my estimation.

Warren552011 I've read Chrissy's whole story which ends in her book, 5 years before her death. She knew she had faults and tried to make amends. Even staying for some time in a catholic monastery in upstate New York. They gave her "food, shelter and life affirming advice". She knew her "spiritual muscle was weak". Also, my interpretation of the lyrics to "Pleasure and Pain" is that she is in an abusive relationship and can't or won't try to escape because of love for the perpetrator. Aren't there many Christian women in the same predicament? Are they perverted masochists?

Me; You might be right about the meaning behind the lyrics "Pleasure and Pain" but can you also see the possible double meaning of S & M? It's a " fine line between pleasure and pain." Don't you see that's exactly the philosophy of the habitual S & M junkie? One person's pleasure is the other person's pain and vice versa. Some men and women require greater stimuli to achieve enjoyment in life or so they think. With no moral restraint sinners have an increasing desire for greater experimental shock and stimuli whether from pornography or S & M or drugs as an escape from reality. Once the culture divorces itself from the infinite absolute personal God of Creation then anything contrary to God's law is possible. That is where we are today.

Our culture is inundated with selfist psychologies and pornography which cater to the Sadean premise that whatever occurs in nature is right or good. If nudity occurs in nature or rape or murder then that validates those acts or at least in a world without God it nullifies any condemnation of them. Humanism is such a world and it has permeated modern society as the leaven of American public schools as well as Washington D. C. and most of the churches. Evolution is taught as a religious fact rather than a theory and so if man believes he is an animal it should be no surprise if he acts like an animal.

I've noticed many Hollywood actors and singers have been used as puppets in the hands of the rich and powerful. Occult symbols and rituals are everywhere today and the mass media is quick to broadcast it into the average American home and abroad. Notice the all seeing eye of Horus and the pyramid and the 666 given by Lady Gaga and other singers?

The writers of popular songs enjoy promoting their perverted ideas to their market place and to the general public. An old song I recall from my MTV years was "Cruel to be Kind...in the right measure. Cruel to be kind it's a very very very good sign."

I think this was typical of a subtle kind of S & M and the lyrics subconsciously through repetition affect our behavior. As a man thinketh so is he.

Pardon the long response and I haven't forgot your question. You asked aren't there many Christian women in the same predicament? I'm sure there are many woman who claim to be Christian but who are not and so these are ill equipped to handle the pressures of a difficult marriage with all the stress of today's lifestyle and temptations etc. A true Biblical woman of faith has the godly character to withstand trials and temptations and their partners misdeeds.

Women need good role models from the Bible like Ruth, Queen Esther, Rahab (who although once a harlot found favor with God) Mary mother of Jesus, Priscilla, Dorcas and Elizabeth. So many women today, like men, are products of the State or public schools which teach many things contrary to the will of God. Is it any wonder there is so much confusion among the sexes and the races? People need to get back to reading God's word. Listen to what He has said and pray for grace to keep His commandments. Jesus said in His sermon on the mount Matthew 5: "blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God. True joy or happiness can only be found in Jesus Christ. End of sermon.
