SOARING WITH WINGS LIKE EAGLES
Hast thou not known? Hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? There is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:28-31;
The natural man is surrounded with lots of limitations. In the face of severe challenges and troubles of life, the most powerful of all men have been found to be totally defenseless and helpless, even as the wisdom of the most intelligent of all men has failed to deliver them at critical times of needs. The human nature is evidently one that is vulnerable, there’s no such thing as ‘invincible man’!
The countless limitations bedeviling the natural man only goes to confirm one thing, and that is man’s deep need for the Almighty God, who alone is unlimited in strength and infinite in wisdom! No matter how strong you are, no matter how wise you appear to be as a man, without God, the best you can ever be is human, and your life is subjected to limitations which are common to all humans! The scripture says 'Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall’ no exceptions! On the other hand, the scripture talks about a different level, a level that is higher than the natural, and this has been succinctly described in the pages of the holy writ by the striking features of an eagle.
To have an idea of the level at which God expects His children to operate, the unique features of the eagle provide us with great insight. The eagle, by all standards, is a unique creature with striking features and distinguishing characteristics among all birds. The eagle is clearly distinguished by its great speed, extraordinary strength, enduring vigour, elegant poise and sharp vision. Just as the eagle clearly stands out among other crawling and low-flying birds, the children of God are meant to stand out in this world and operate in the realm of the supernatural where they soar high above every limitation and barrier.
Like the eagle, to mount up with wings and soar high above barriers and limitations, the first key thing is that you must be united with God in nature. Being united with God in nature means the Spirit of God has been infused into your spirit, and once you share God’s nature, the mandate to operate in the supernatural realm has been delivered to you. John 3:6 says ‘That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit’. You can never operate like an eagle Christian if you’re not united with God in nature. That which is born of the chicken will ever remain a chicken, that which is born of the eagle cannot be less than an eagle; that which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of God is God! Psalm 82:6 has this to say about children of God who share His nature: ‘I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High’.
Another notable thing about eagles is that they do not flock with other birds. Eagles do not mix with other birds, but distinguish themselves by choosing the top of high mountains and rocks as place of abode. Those who want to mount up to the realm of the supernatural must be prepared to clearly separate themselves from the world and its pollutions. Sin is a weight, unrighteousness is a trap, those who are caught in the webs cannot soar high as the eagles. Colossians 3:1-2 says ‘If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth’. The supernatural realm which knows no limitations is the realm of God, and those who desire to operate at this realm, must do away with pollutions of sins.
The vision of an eagle is equally worthy of attention. Eagles have unusual eyes. They are very large in proportion to their heads and have extremely large pupils. Eagles’ eyes have a million light-sensitive cells per square mm of retina, five times more than a human’s 200,000. While humans see just three basic colours, eagles see five. These adaptations gives eagles extremely keen eyesight and enable them to spot even well-camouflaged potential prey from a very long distance. In fact the eagles’ vision is among the sharpest of any animal and studies suggest that some eagles can spot an animal the size of a rabbit up to two miles away! When you operate in the realm of the supernatural, you like an eagle, will have sharp vision and deep spiritual insight into what the ordinary human eyes are not able to see. You will have access to divine revelations of hidden opportunities which are capable of transforming and distinguishing you from the crowd.
In addition, eagles are admired the world over as living symbol of power, freedom and transcendence. As a believer, you have access to divine power and ability of the Holy Spirit that can empower you to achieve the impossible. If you’re lazy or simply refuse to tap into this reservoir of divine strength, there’s no way you can operate at the higher level of the supernatural, you can’t be an eagle believer. Remember, Daniel was found ten times better than all wise men in the land of Babylon because an excellent Spirit was found in him. If Daniel, who did not partake from the grace brought by Christ, could stand out in his generation, how much more those who are partakers of grace and nature of God through Christ!
Dearly beloved, it’s sad that a lot of Christians are living opposite of the life God intends for them. God’s earnest desire for you and I is to live above limitations and barriers. We are called to be distinguished; our lives are meant to showcase the power and excellence of God. 1Peter 2:9 says ‘But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light’. It’s a great disservice to yourself and God’s kingdom if you live less than the person God has made you to be. You are called to operate in the realm of God, God says you’re god! You’re not meant to pick stuffs from dumps like chickens; you’re called to operate in the realm of the eagles. Don’t limit yourself, get ready to soar with wings like eagles!
Shalom!
