AFTER THE TEARS…..

We all lose people we love. But I propose that we can also gain in the midst of loss.
After the tears have slowed, and after the initial shock has lessened… There are lessons to be learned. There is something that your heart needs to receive from this loss, from every loss.

Sometimes it is the lesson of how NOT to live your life, based on the life that you are grieving. Perhaps they were angry all the time, or lived a dangerous lifestyle without regard to those they might leave behind. But sometimes, the lesson that awaits is a fragrant flower of a lesson ~ like a beautiful legacy that someone is bequeathing you….

Once the heartache lifts a bit, take the time to reflect on the person’s life, and allow it to impact you in a positive way – no longer focusing on your loss or on the circumstances of their passing, but on their LIFE. My sister left me the gift of being a life-long learner, wanting to learn from life with every breath. A good friend left the legacy of compassion to everyone he met, great and small. My father’s legacy was hard work and total devotion to his family. Another person whom lost was a terrible liar, which I did not discover until after his passing. Lessons there are about living a life of integrity in all aspects.

So, reflect, allow yourself time to grieve and heal. And then, decide what the legacy is that you will hand down to mankind?
