Recently, while making pancakes for the family, I walked down memory lane to a morning when I was about nine years old, making pancakes with my dad. "Don't turn them until they're bubbly in the middle and dry around the edges," my father instructed. In my excitement to be allowed to help flip the pancakes, I kept turning them a little too early. "Not yet... Just a little bit longer. Good things are worth waiting for."

Who would ever imagine in that moment that they were giving their highly curious and energetic daughter a valuable life lesson in patience and virtue. My dad never missed an opportunity to use mundane tasks to teach me important life lessons. "Good things are worth waiting for." How many times in my fifty-four years have I drawn on that principle? The answer is, too many times to count!

Parents, never underestimate the importance of including your children in everyday tasks, relishing the time with them and taking full advantage of those teachable moments. As I contemplate this, I am reminded that our last two daughters are quickly growing up. What are we going to to do about it? Let's make pancakes!
