Communication
‘ Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Simon and his companions went to look for him, and when they found him, they exclaimed: "Everyone is looking for you!" Jesus replied, "Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come." So he travelled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.’
Mark 1:35-39
Parents are the main educators in the lives of their children and we must not sweep things under the carpet. Issues (circumstances that develop) must be dealt with in the appropriate way or the outcome will be a negative one that can impact generations to come. Whether or not we believe in the principles of the Bible, we cannot deny that there are consequences for each action taken. For example, if a parent fails to potty-train their baby when he/she gets to toddler stage, one consequence is that there will be mess on the floor once he/she is old enough to undo the tapes securing the sides of the nappy or pull down the training pants. Someone will have to clean up that mess. Another consequence is that the toddler will have to wear nappies/pampers long after his or her peers have started using the potty or toilet and may invite unwelcome comments from others that can set the trend for other negative events in that child’s life.
Christian parents: you know the difference and should do all that you can to follow God’s commands. You will make mistakes but I’m here to encourage you not to purposely ignore the instructions of the Bible in teaching your children how to walk in the will of God. Do not leave the teaching up to the schools, the media or even the church. It is first a parental responsibility. We cannot drop our parental responsibilities and then point the finger at others.
Church leaders: I would like to encourage you from Mark’s gospel chapter 1:29-45 where ‘Jesus Prays in a Solitary Place’:
35) Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.
36) Simon and his companions went to look for him,
37) and when they found him, they exclaimed: "Everyone is looking for you!"
38) Jesus replied, "Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come."
39 )So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.
Do not be afraid to teach the Word of God.
From the above Scripture, Jesus took time out to spiritually recharge. Do not ignore that very important aspect of your ministry. It is not a selfish act to take time-out. It is a command by our heavenly Father, demonstrated to us by His Son, our Saviour—Jesus Christ. Please recognise that people have lots of questions you cannot answer and there are many issues that will come to you that you just won't know how to handle, unless you have the help of the Holy Spirit. It will exhaust you, and you will become discouraged. You may even feel like giving up. That is why I am encouraging you with this part of the Scripture first.
In verse 37, after finding Jesus they exclaimed, "Everyone is looking for you!" It is still the same today. People are hurting from all that life has dealt them. They are looking for Jesus, just that some haven't yet realise that He is the One they are looking for. Therefore, they try to fill that void with anyone who will and anything that can help on a temporary basis.
Often they are battered and bruised but not always broken by the time they get through the church doors or when they meet a Christian. If we (followers of Christ) are not prepared to embrace them with the love of God, and be the light directing them out of darkness, they won't reach a place of conviction to come to a place of repentance. Without repentance, they see nothing wrong with the way they live their lives and therefore, cannot understand the opposing views and will continue to retaliate. Only the Word of God can do the piercing. Only the power of the Holy Spirit can do the drawing and God will do the growing as we continue to water and nurture.
