"What is a human being that you are mindful of him?" Psalm 8:4

As David writes this psalm he considers the heavens, the moon and stars and then asks this question. It is a question I have asked, perhaps not in David's exact words, but a similar question. Why do you bother with me, Lord, when I seem so insignificant compared to the vastness of your universe? Yet the Bible is filled with assurances of God's interest and concern. God tells me I am precious (Isaiah 43:4); that I am a dearly loved child (Ephesians 5:11); and that I was chosen to be his before the creation of the world (Ephesians 1:4).

The love of God is an overwhelming truth when we consider the length, breath and depth of it. Yet sometimes we are tempted to draw back, perhaps in disbelief or in fear. The cross gives us the assurance of his love and there is no need to fear someone who loves us perfectly; his perfect love for us eliminates all dread of what he might do to us (1 John 4:18 TLB). God has our best interests at heart.

So we have a choice. Are we going to believe God's Word that we are loved, valued and important? Or do we believe the lies of the devil who tells us we are unlovable, useless and insignificant?

Let's choose to believe God's Word and live in the security of his love.
