What place has disappointment in your kingdom?
When my heart pulls long in sweeping sighs,
I'm reminded by periwinkle skies.
When my eyes grit dry before they cry,
Brittle branches still reach high.
Why can't I?

Why can't I find solace in your worth?
In the disturbing, relieving truth--
It's not about me.
My foot, you say, on level ground
My affections should be set and sound.
Not wavering, right?
Like shifting sand.
Prayer leaves dangling but..and...

But you, Oh Lord, be blessed!
You hear my cries for mercy,
My strength, my shield!
The trust of my heart, a strong shield.
I will thank you at all times.
When prayer has ragged edges--
If ever I loved Thee, My Jesus it's now!
If ever I needed, the sweat from thy brow.

My tears leave streaks,
Some caught in pools behind my lashes.

But hear! Oh here and now I'll praise!
For You are worthy.
It's not about me, or for me, or by me, or to me.
But let glory beam over, through and on
My shadows.
The massive heat of your outshining, dry my tears,
Melt my heart.
Here in worship and thanksgiving
My wings unfurl, eyes clear, hope reborn.
