The Book of First John is full of statements having to do with knowing certain truths and giving one an assurance of salvation. All passages are from the NASV.(Emphasis in bold letters is mine.)

2:3-"And by this we KNOW that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments."

2:5 and 6- "...By this we KNOW that we are in Him: the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked."

2:18-"Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have arisen; for this we KNOW that it is the last hour."

2:28-"And now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have CONFIDENCE and not SHRINK AWAY from Him in shame at His coming."

2:29-"If you know that He is righteous, you KNOW that everyone also who practices righteousness is born of Him."

3:2-"Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we shall be. We KNOW that, when He appears, we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him just as He is."

3:5-"And you KNOW that He appeared in order to take away sins; and in Him there is no sin."

3:14-"We KNOW that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren....."

3:18 and 19-"Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth. We shall KNOW by this that we are of the truth, and shall assure our heart before Him."

3:24-"And the one who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And we KNOW by this that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us."

4:2-"By this you KNOW the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God." (This is the dividing line between truth and error.)

4:6-"We are from God; he who knows God listens to us...By this we KNOW the spirit of truth and the spirit of error."

4:13-"By this we KNOW that we abide in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit."

4:16-"And we have come to KNOW and have believed the love which God has for us..."

5:2-"By this we KNOW that we love the children of God, when we love God and observe His commandments."

5:13-"These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you make KNOW that you have eternal life."

5:14-"And this is the CONFIDENCE which we have before Him; that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us."

5:18-"We KNOW that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him and the evil one does not touch him."

5:19-"We KNOW that we are of God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one."

5:20-"And we KNOW that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding, in order that we might KNOW Him who is true, and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ..."
