WHO IS THIS MAN CALLED JESUS ?
(a Christmas story)
For centuries his name has been known throughout the world. Wars have raged on for years over his birthplace. Millions have lost their lives because of their allegiance to him and yet some consider Jesus as just another good prophet. Others use his name in profanity but thousands worship him as their personal God.
Who is this man called Jesus?
The best source of information about him is his biography called the Bible. This book is said to be "God breathed" and the very words of the Creator God himself. They have been spoken through men of old who preserved them throughout the ages of human history. The person of Jesus is referenced over 150 times in the Old Testament as well as his life story in the New. Biblical history tells us he had a very humble beginning. He was born of a young virgin and placed on a bed of hay in a Bethlehem stable. This in itself was humbling and very unique as he is yet to become the world’s future King. Mary, his mother, pondered often about the impact this precious bundle of life she was holding would have upon mankind. Little did she know his true identity? That night in Bethlehem Joseph named him Jesus. Even time itself started over from BC to AD.
At twelve years of age Jesus astounded the scholars and intellects with his wisdom. He entered the ministry at thirty years of age with twelve followers called apostles at his side. In a short period of three years he performed incredible miracles and most have never been duplicated by all the religious leaders that have ever lived up to this day. At the end of his three-year ministry he was betrayed and left alone by these same followers during a critical point in his life. The masses called for his crucifixion.
Why did Jesus have to die?
Once again Biblical history tells us that the Creator God set boundaries down for our first parents Adam and Eve. God told them if they ate of a certain fruit they would die. This would not only bring upon them physical death but spiritual separation from their Father God the creator of all things visible and invisible. He also put within them a conscience or free will with the ability to make choices. Satan, the evil prince of this world convinced them to choose disobedience. Death and spiritual separation for all mankind followed close behind. Who would break this bondage the dark side had on creation? It would take someone who was sinless, pure and undefiled. No one in the entire planet could be found. God was the only one who could break these chains that bound humanity in that dark, lonely place. As the story goes it was God himself that came down to a Bethlehem stable that cold, dark night and laid his head down on a bed of hay. Jesus biography tells us in I Timothy 3:16 KJ “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory “ Hebrews 2:14 LB “Since we, God’s children, are human beings—made of flesh and blood—he became flesh and blood too by being born in human form; for only as a human being could he die and in dying break the power of the devil who had the power of death. Only in that way could he deliver those who through fear of death have been living all their lives as slaves to constant dread.” Colossians 1:15,16 LB “Christ is the exact likeness of the unseen God. He existed before God made anything at all, and, in fact, Christ himself is the Creator who made everything in heaven and earth, the things we can see and the things we can’t; the spirit world with its kings and kingdoms, its rulers and authorities; all were made by Christ for his own use and glory.” Did God actually die in the human body of a man called Jesus? Revelations 1:18 KJ “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore. Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.”
John, the author of Revelations tells us this God/man Jesus held the keys of hell (spiritual death) and death (physical death). The Bible tells us that Jesus took all the sin's that Lucifer (Satan) could think up and put them upon himself offering his life on the cross for the redemption of mankind. Jesus not only provided the way back to a relationship with God but also broke the chains of death by his resurrection. He now offers forgiveness and freedom from sin to all who believe in who he is (God) and what he has accomplished through his bodily sacrifice (forgiveness). In addition to redemption he promises to give us new bodies that will never die (immortality) and eternity in Heaven. Forty days after his resurrection in his new body (like the one we will have someday), he rose into the clouds and went back to his formal Glory. He returned once again in Spirit with a new name and ministry as the Comforter to indwell all those who ask him to come into their lives by faith. This opened a new dimension for mankind because now he can indwell believers throughout the world by his Spirit and not be limited to the flesh. Similar to the radio waves from your cell phones that are invisible, Jesus in Spirit connects you to God (himself). The infant that lay in a bed of hay that starry night in Bethlehem came into this world with a mission which was to deliver mankind from the slavery of sin and death that keeps them in bondage.
The message for this Christmas season would be to come to this God/man Jesus and confess your need for forgiveness and allow him to be a part of your life. Jesus will give you a whole new meaning and purpose with a future filled with hope when he returns as King of Kings and Lord of Lords for a thousand years. He’s coming soon to take believers out (rapture) of this chaos before the seven year tribulation that ends with the start of his thousand year rein. Are you ready to meet King Jesus face to face?
