When you think of me, what will you remember? Will you remember the times I failed through humanity? Or will you remember my imperfect, very human, attempt to show you Christ’s love through me?
Will you remember my smile and the love in my eyes whenever they gazed at you? Will you remember the pride in my heart for your accomplishments…not those things of this world; the plaques trophies, awards and academic recognition…but for your knowledge…guided by your spirit, your compassion and gentleness you’ve openly offered others? Will you remember the tears I cried as I silently thanked God for your very existence? Will you remember the conversations about choices and making the best ones possible, with the information available to you? Will you remember my arms as they held you when your body shook with sobbing cries of anguish, after you’d been hurt so deeply that you could not imagine drawing, not one more, breath? Did you hear me thanking God for your wisdom, candor and love as I listened to you convey sound advice to your friends with both kindness and truth? Will you remember the lessons learned about forgiveness, even through anger, and the peace it brings to LOVE even though you’ve been hurt? Will you remember the spark in my eyes and the laughter at an “inside” joke that only you and I could understand? Will you remember the nights we stayed up late, just us…sharing a movie in silence, content to be in each other’s presence? Will you remember the unexpected hugs when you were just passing through a room? Will you remember sharing music, rejoicing in the lyrics and moving to the sound? Will you remember the stories I shared of your Great Grandparents and Great Great Grandparents, the wisdom passed down from generation after generation, and the realization that much of what they experienced and learned is still relevant and applicable today? Will you remember my heart soaring with every triumph you experienced and breaking with every crushing hurt or disappointment you suffered? Will you remember sacrifices made for you so that you might have those things you needed in this life and the security of a home and people who love you with no conditions?

You have reached a time in your life where you are questioning. It may seem that you have more questions than answers. You may feel that you have more doubt than belief. You have questioned God’s very existence, yet I ask you again ~ Will you remember?

Yes, my son, God does exist. Do you remember that your mother has always tried to lead without commands, to teach through example, to instruct through asking questions that produce “active thinking and self-realized conclusions? The answers you now seek are no different. Of all that God has entrusted me to do, He gifted me with the souls of my children to nurture, for a little while and then He guided me to raise you as I have tried to do. He asked me to love you as He loves, this is what I hope you will remember as you seek answers and as He calls you to Him.

You see, my son, the Lord loves when He sees us make correct choices, guided in His love! He gently wraps His arms around us when we hurt, feeling the sadness in our hearts, forgiving those who have hurt us, loving us and holding onto us when we don’t know if we can draw another breath. He smiles with love when He sees us help another, walking alongside each other with kindness and compassion, not judging ~ only loving, even through disagreements. He gives us His unconditional love and enjoys seeing us offering our time, our concern & openly giving to one another when they are is a need. He rejoices to hear the laughter and joy we find in those moments of this life that bring us together in fellowship and love. God loves to hold us close and know the most “inside” places of our heart, where no words need be spoken. He enjoys the joyful noise of music that brings people together and speaks the words of life through sound! And, son, God told stories! The wisdom in His Word passed down through the generations! Words to love and live by so that we might know Him, even today, right now, where we are at!!

My beautiful boy, God sacrificed His only Son so that we might know Him, to know His unending love, for all eternity…in this life and then He promised those who believe, a never-ending life of love, joy and peace! He sent Christ to us, in human form, how deeply He loves us that God should humbly become man to take away our sin, that we might know His Grace! He was persecuted and tortured and nailed to a wooden cross, in unfathomable pain, as a symbol that no pain is too intense to bear in the face of God’s love. Your life was paid for in Christ’s blood, you were loaned to me, as a gift from God, that you might grow in His love, until the time that you would choose to know more of Him. Yes, son, the Creator exists! He created us to be human, of flesh that will die and with free will so that we might choose Him and eternal life with Him!

When you think of me, will you remember that Christ has been with you always, patiently awaiting your choice? When you think of me, will you choose Him?
