EVOLUTIONARY HUMANISM VS SALVATION
By
Lawrence Walkup
Lost man and the world would have you believe that man is progressing along the Evolutionary Scale. This means that man has come to be what he is today because he has evolved from apes. The belief is that man will continue to evolve as long as he exists. The Theory of Evolution is just that...a theory...it can't be proven within the parameters of the Scientific Method. It can't be observed. So much for respecting the Scientific Method. In order for Evolution to have happened at all...it would involve not thousands, but millions of years. It's ironic that man will accept millions and billions of years being involved in the evolution of man and the universe; but when it comes to God dealing with man for only thousands of years...that's totally unacceptable because he's taking too much time (11 Peter 3:3-9). Evolution involves mutations taking place. We still have apes in existence today, but in order to explain properly that man came from apes, a mutation has to have occurred as apes evolved. There are certain people in this world, who believe about themselves, the reason why they are so much more intelligent than the rest of us is because they are part of a mutationary jump that is currently happening along the Evolutionary Scale (try your best not to laugh). You may know some of these people. These people also believe about themselves that they should be the ones in charge of the rest of us who are not a part of that jump. We need to listen to them because they know better than us Neanderthals.
Seven years after the father of Evolution (Charles Darwin) died; we have the birth of the Science of Psychology. I don't think this is a coincidence as much as it is the working of the 'god of this world' bringing these two together to work hand in hand (11 Cor. 4:4). What a huge accomplishment this was for Satan. We have the Theory of Evolution being widely accepted and therefore making it much easier for the Science of Psychology to be accepted and established. Now Psychology has a bases from which they can sell all their theories, since we are nothing more than animals ourselves. Man can now hopefully get past his religious moronic phase and enter into and believe in the findings of science. It is very interesting that all the fathers of Psychology who were all in the same field could never agree amongst themselves. There was no consistency that could be established because there was no consistency. It was nothing more than opinions being expressed. And yet the Bible which was written by men from all different fields and backgrounds over a period of 1600 years has proven to be nothing but consistent.
Man is not progressing along any evolutionary scale whatsoever. If anything he's regressing. Just look to the birth place of man. Here you have the beginning of civilization, and yet today it is the most volatile region in the world. You would think if anybody had their act together by now, it would be these people. It seems the longer they exist, the worse they become. Each generation that comes along has to out do the previous generation in the degree of evil that they can commit. It's not enough they blow themselves up in their own homeland, now they have to go around the world and do it. And all this is in the name of God. Right, in the name of the 'god of this world' is what it is. They will say it is in the name of God but the reasons are purely political. Politics and religiosity have always gone hand in hand anyway. Both are nothing more than entities of the world system. Only those of the truth are not of the world system. These people have become worse than the animals we were supposed to have evolved from. At least animals act only on instinct, because they don't have the ability to think up evil. They don't have the ability to use nuclear weapons. The Christian Church also has history of acting in the name of God, when God wasn't in it...it's called the Crusades.
Man has been regressing since the fall of Adam. Jesus said the world's sin is unbelief in him. There have been moments in man's history when he has believed; but because of the cravings of a sinful nature it doesn't last very long. This has always been the pattern of man at best, as revealed to us in the Old Testament; and in particular through the nation of Israel. At the same time God was revealing the failure of Israel in the Old Testament, he was also revealing a remedy to the failure. It's just that it needs to be discovered by an earnest and seeking heart. After Jesus rose from the dead, and just before he ascended into heaven, he appears to his disciples. In the closing verses of the book of Luke; Jesus says in Luke 24:44: "This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is wtitten about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms" (the Old Testament).
This is a very big statement by Jesus because not only is he revealing that he is the before mentioned remedy; but at the same time he is also validating the Old Testament as the Word of God. Jesus makes or breaks the deal. Everything about Christianity begins with and is based solely on the fact of who Jesus is. If anybody could ever prove that Jesus was not God, then Christianity would cease. What has always given Christianity a bad name is not because of Jesus; it's because of the imperfect people that make up Christianity. To look to imperfect people to be the determining factor to give Christianity credibility has always been the case. This is the mistake of the critics of Christianity. The Church is only perfect spiritually. Physically and practically it has mostly failed...at no surprise to God. God is still working in imperfect people's lives. At least these imperfect ones see their need for God whereas the rest don't. The Church will only be absolutely perfect when it is in heaven.
From the very beginning and throughout the Gospels Jesus is always validating the Old Testament by referring to specific incidents that happened back then. His mere mention of Noah and the ark, Jonah and the whale, seeing Satan fall from heaven, manna falling from heaven and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah means that these were actual events that really happened...not conjured up mythology. In Matt 19:4 he speaks of the creation of Adam and Eve. He's talking about an event that happened about 4000 years before his time. In this one statement he completely obliterates the Theory of Evolution. And what about the significance for today in regards to his politically incorrect statement about Sodom and Gomorrah? We have overwhelming evidence, thrown at us everyday, that man is regressing back to that era. Just turn on your television for goodnes sakes!
We have given evidence in validating and giving credibility to the Old Testament...a book written thousands and thousands of years ago in the past. Jesus is all the evidence that is needed. Think how much more valid would be the book coming in the future, which also would be inspired by the Holy Spirit starting on the day of Pentecost, which was only 10 days after Jesus ascended into heaven. Ten days after Jesus ascended, the disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit in order to testify about him in their writings which would become known as the New Testament (John 15:26-27). The New Testament is also known as the New Covenant...also known as the last will of God. And like in most societies, the last will written is the will that is recognized and relevant. Any previous wills have become obsolete. We are no longer under the old, we are now under the new. It went into effect at the death of the author (Heb.8:13; 9:16-17).
Jesus spoke like no one else in all of human history. No one else before him or no one else after him. This was always the Father's intent for good reason. The crowds said that he spoke with such authority. He could speak and say the things he did with such authority because he knew who he was. No one else would ever dare to say what he said because it would be impossible for them to keep a straight face. The Father had Jesus makes such radical statements about himself, to prove first who he was, and then so it would be easy for us humans to make a decision about him. It's a black or white decision. There is no gray area. No cloud of confusion. He either is or he isn't. You can make it confusing by listening to others, or you can go read it for yourself in the book of John. In Acts 4:12 it says: 'Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.'
In order for us to understand salvation, we must first understand the why of salvation. What happened? When Adam was created in the image of God; that means when God looked down upon Adam he saw himself. Adam was created with God indwelling him. When the Bible says that Adam fell...that means the life of God departed from Adam. Adam lost the life of God. This is what the rest of us, since Adam, have inherited from Adam...a life void of God. Now instead of us being created in the image of God, we are created in the image of our father before us (Gen 5:3). The whole essence of salvation is about getting back the life that was lost. Salvation is not about being successful at keeping a bunch of laws so we can get into heaven on good behavior. God calls us to the obedience of faith, not to the obedience of the law (Rom. 1:5). Those laws were given to us to show us how dead we are (Rom. 7:9-11). And what a dead person needs is life. This is why Jesus came. "I have come that you might have life" (John 10:10). This is what God the Father is now offering to mankind in this grace period we live in.
Adam was created as a dependent creature. God created Adam to be dependent upon him...by choice. God does not force us to be dependent upon him. It has to be our choice to do that. There has to be the freedom to choose to do the right thing or to choose to do the wrong thing. Choosing to be dependent upon God is what faith is. This is what trusting God is. This is what pleases God (Heb. 11:6). Adam choosing to exercise faith in God is also his love for God. This is the significance of why he was told not to eat of the tree of good and evil. There had to be the option available to him to choose to do the wrong thing in order to continue doing the right thing. The right thing for man is to exercise faith in God which is also a demonstration to God of our love for God. God, like the rest of us, wants to be loved freely. The reason why God departed from Adam is because Adam chose to quit trusting and believing in what God had told him about not eating from the tree. 'for when you eat of it you will surely die.' The definition of death is the absence of life. Adam died spiritually that day because the life of God left him. He was absent of the life of God.
The God haters of the world will come along and tell you that all the above is ridiculous and a bunch of mumbo jumbo. In order to be truly free, you need to be independent from all the God stuff. You need to be your own person. These would be the people who have the same kind of mindset of a Saul Alinsky and his lot. In his book Rules for Radicals, Alinsky gives recognition to Satan for being the first to rebel against authority. What lost man doesn't realize, because he doesn't know God at all, is that the freest life a human being can live, is a life of dependency upon God. Independency from God is not a life of freedom, but a life of bondage...resulting in a life of failure. An excellent book written many years ago that demonstrates this perfectly is still available to read. It's called: The Old Testament.
If man, because he has been created as a dependent creature does not put his dependence in God, then he is going to find something else (a substitute) in this world to put dependency in to bring purpose and meaning to his life. And whatever it is that he depends upon for purpose and meaning in life-is going to control his life (11 Pet. 2:19). These could be things like: a career, a reputation to maintain, needing recognition from man, addictions of the flesh and so forth and so on. These are not the things that should be controlling our lives. God is to be controlling our lives. When God is in control of our lives, then automatically, we are walking in the love of God. Somebody please explain to me how is it not true freedom to be dependent upon a God who loves you perfectly.
