Luke 14:

28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it— 29 lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him,

Grace and peace be unto you my Brothers and Sisters,

The particular scripture is found in the middle of a conversation that Jesus is having with the multitudes which are following him. It is interesting that he is having this specific conversation dealing with what it cost to be a disciple of Christ with the multitude. The scripture declares many are called but few are chosen, could it be that the reason why few are chosen because everyone is not willing to pay the cost to be a disciple of Christ? in verse 26 Jesus declares," “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.

Jesus is not saying you have to hate your love ones before you can be a disciple of his but he is saying you must not love them more than you love him. Your loyalty must be to Christ and Christ alone, that includes yourself. You can not love your self more than you love God. This is the struggle most folks are dealing with, which is called Idolatry. You love yourself more than you love God and now you have became a god to yourself. You are sitting on your own throne. The scripture declares you can not serve two masters, you will love one and hate the other. Have you counted the cost of being a disciple. I know the old saying,"Jesus paid it all" but that was the cost of salvation not discipleship.

To be a disciple you have to come down from your throne, you have to stop making gods out of things, jobs, houses, cars, careers and families. Some in ministry have made their church a god, their congregation a god. Some people spend more time at church talking about God than they do actually talking with God. In verse 33 Jesus declares,"So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple. Are you a disciple of Christ? If not, say what Jesus said," Father not my will but your will be done. Let me decrease so that you can increase. Less of me and more of you, I want to be your disciple. A disciple of Christ is not only a follower of Christ but a student of Christ, the student becomes just like his master.
