"The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant." (Psalm 25:14 KJV)
Secret? What secret? One of the most challenging verses that really draws this out in me is late in Job. Job 38:2 specifically. God finally answers from out of the power of the whirlwind and begins the process of setting the record straight with a very simple pair of words, "without knowledge". Jesus does something very similar with the greatest request of forgiveness in the very act of giving the last of His life for Man. He makes this request with the assertion that they do what they do because they do not understand (see Luke 23:34). In a world that is constantly searching, refining, and endlessly probing for a better understanding of how to do whatever it is that they are doing the understanding never seems to get there.
Faith becomes an interesting dynamic in this process. Faith requires a belief and a trust in what is still yet unseen. It becomes clearer as you move forward. There is often a proportion of growth in knowledge that comes with a growth in trust. Solomon was correct in saying that knowledge and understanding comes from the Lord (see Proverbs 2:6), yet neither come anywhere near a completeness prior to a trust level that allows it. You see, it is not knowledge that allows faith, but faith that allows knowledge. Are we getting closer to that secret yet?
There is something that circumvents even faith and knowledge. Faith gives life to hope. Knowledge strengthens that hope. It takes Love to seal the deal. There has to be something within us that wants, desires, yearns, or thirsts for Jesus and the ways and means with which He handles issues. His Holy Spirit does that from the very center of our being. Listening to the conviction that God's Spirit brings forth within us and delighting our self in the Lord brings out the line items of His covenant. We find that it is a covenant of Love. In discovering the wonder of that Love, it refreshes and restores. It gives life and joy. It is not just a salvation, but there is joy in there. It is not just a spirit within me, but one that is free and willing.
"Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit." (Psalm 51:12 KJV)
