Matthew 13:57-58
But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.” 58 Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.
My beloved brothers and sisters, this passage of scripture is as relevant to this time period as it was when Jesus walked the earth. In Matthew chapter 13 the text reflects that Jesus has finished speaking parables to the multitudes by the seashore and sent them away and went into the house to explain the parables to his disciples and when he finished he went into his own country.
Here lies the problem, isn't it interesting that a prophet or prophetess of God can attract multitudes of people just to hear him or her speak, preach and teach and perform miracles outside of his or her own country, city or state. However; when he or she returns home the local people are astonished and wants to inquire " were did this man or woman get this wisdom and ability to do these mighty works? (verse 54). They then began to talk about his family. Isn't this the carpenters son, isn't this Mary's baby? I know his family, that are not all of that. Where then did he get all this anointing?
If they did this to Jesus, you should know they will do it to you and I. For those of you who are doing great things in Jesus name be encourage, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.”
When you have been ordain and called of God, it will be those naysayers of your own household, your own neighborhood, your own city and state, that will question your authenticity and the anointing of God upon your life. But just as Jesus declared," though you do not believe Me, believe the works, that you may know and believe that the Father is in Me, and I in Him.” (John 10:38).
The scripture declares,"Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief".(Matthew 13:58). The essence of the text is even Jesus who is God in the flesh, his ability to do mighty works was limited in those places were unbelief resided. The bible declares that without faith it is impossible to please God. Remember my brothers and sisters,‘The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. This was the Lord’s doing, And it is marvelous in our eyes’? (Matthew 21:42).
