A Prophecy And A Prayer
Chapter 26 of Fine Line, The Race Is On, was posted over Memorial Day weekend. The timing of the posting was in honor of the inaugural running of the Indianapolis 500 in 1911. Chapter 27 of Fine Line is A Prophecy And A Prayer. Fine Line is the sequel to Woodcutter’s Revival. Both historical fiction books, written by Jerry Slauter are set at the beginning of the final phase of the Industrial Revolution.
In chapter 27, William Seymour was visiting some eastern states before heading back to Los Angeles and the Azusa Street Mission. Some of the characters were privileged to attend one of his meetings. The following excerpt is from that meeting:
Pastor Richard stood up and offered a prayer for the meeting. Then, before he introduced William Seymour, he said, “It is not often that the local churches get together and agree on a project. It is also rare to have a guest speaker who is on the cutting edge of a great revival. I truly believe the Pentecostal Revival is about to sweep across the United States just as it did in Wales a few years ago.
“If we are willing to allow God to challenge our thinking and our beliefs, we will be part of the revival and part of the solution. If we think we already have what we need and do not need to listen and grow, we will be bypassed. Remember the new wine and the woven threads. They represent the Holy Spirit. Do not attempt to fit the Holy Spirit to your belief system. Let your faith change and grow with the revelation of the Holy Spirit.
“Second Chronicles seven and fourteen says, ‘If My people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.’ Ladies and gentlemen, Brother William Seymour.”
Brother Seymour stood up. “Thank you for your kind words. I covet only your prayers. There is trouble at the mission. Whenever God moves, the enemy makes a counter move. As the Holy Spirit is poured out on Azusa Street, Los Angeles and the nation, there is trouble. Man attempts to control the Spirit and dish out the blessing through prescribed and controllable programs.
“When Jesus was transfigured on the high mountain, Moses and Elijah appeared. Peter, who always offered an answer, even when a question was not asked, offered to build a tent for each of the three. God spoke from heaven and told the disciples to listen to His Son. From fear, the disciples dropped to the ground. Jesus touched them and restored them. That is what we need to do – fear God, listen to the Son, fall on our faces, if necessary, and let Jesus restore and direct us. We do not need to build new buildings and create new programs. We do not need to build new tents in which God will dwell. We are the tabernacle. Let us empty ourselves so He may fill us and empower us.”
Woodcutter’s Revival is available to read now. Fine Line will be available in late 2014.
