Gospel
Recently I had a friend respond to one of my text messages after sending this particular one.
Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven; whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imnputeth not iniquity and in whose spirit there is no guile. Psalm 32:1-2
FRIEND What is sin?
Carlton-"Sin is rebellion against God. Sin is having my own way rather than God's way. There is a way that seems right unto man but the end thereof are the ways of death." Proverbs 16:25
FRIEND-Bible defines sin as what in 1 John?
Carlton- Which law are you talking about?
FRIEND- Biblical
Carlton-Which Biblical laws? Are all the laws of the Bible still binding?
FRIEND- Yes, earlier you stated rebellion against God's what?
Carlton- His law. But the reason I ask you which laws is because there were laws given under the Old Testament. The moral law, civil law and ceremonial laws.
Which of these laws do you obey today?
FRIEND-The real issue is which laws have you picked to keep?
Carlton- Yes, that is the real issue. I asked you which laws do you obey today?
You can not get to heaven by your good works or your law keeping. For by the deeds of the law shall no flesh be justified. We need the righteousness of Christ imputed to us.
Do you have this righteousness and how do you know you do?
FRIEND-Didn't we prophesy in your name? I say that I don't know you.
Carlton-But that doesn't answer my question. Do you have this righteousness of Christ and how do you know?
FRIEND-That is between Christ and I. I could care less what anyone else thinks or some false preacher states.
Carlton-Let me state it this way. Suppose you were in court before a judge and he was to try you on the grounds that you were claiming to be a Christian. To be a Christian carries the death sentence let's say. Would there be enough evidence to convict you? If so, what would that evidence be?
We must all stand before the King of kings and Lord of lords to be judged for everything we've done. If we fail to keep the law in one point we are guilty of breaking the whole law. Our standing must be because of the righteousness of Christ. Jesus Christ kept the law perfectly. He was born under the law. He did His Father's perfect will. He is the Lamb of God, the perfect sacrifice.
FRIEND- Why would I care what any other man or court does? I answer only to God my judge.
Carlton-Yes, ultimately we answer only to God our judge. But we must not wait until we die and face the judge "for as it is appointed unto man once to die but after this the judgment." Hebrews 9:27
Are you a good person? Are you trusting in your goodness to get you to heaven?
FRIEND- Yes
Carlton- Have you ever told a lie? (After five minutes of no response I followed up with the next statement)
It's a simple question of yes or no.
FRIEND-When I was a child I did childish things.
Carlton- Yes, the Bible says foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child but the rod of correction will drive that far from him.
FRIEND-Who is perfect and without sin?
Carlton-Nobody but Jesus Christ. That's why we must look to Him. We must trust Him and not ourself. We must be clothed with Christ's righteousness. The white robes spoken of in Revelation is the righteousness of Christ which we must have in order to appear at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb.
There is not a just man upon the earth that does good and sinneth not.
If getting into heaven...if being acceptable to God depended on what I do I would never make it. God the Father must see us perfect in Christ His Son who is perfect.
FRIEND- 1 John, there is no sin in me.
Carlton- Galatians 3:11 "But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident for the just shall live by faith but the law is not of faith but the man that doeth them shall live in them. Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law being made a curse for us for it is written Cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree.
FRIEND- Goodnight. I have wasted enough time.
Carlton- Read 1 John 1:8,9 and 10. If we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned we make Him a liar and His word is not in us. May the Lord show you His truth as you continue to seek His will. I love you FRIEND. You've been a friend of mine for a long time.
