God is a person of grace but it is also possible to try His patience. There are some things that God detests. Here are seven passages of scripture that speak to this subject. Romans 12:9 tells us that we should "abhor what is evil; cling to what is good."

Even though we are living under grace, we must not live any way we want to. Romans 6:1-2 says "What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace might increase? MAY IT NEVER BE! How shall we who died to sin still live in it?" (emphasis mine) The same thing is reiterated in verse 15, this time in reference to living under the law.

We can try God's patience in the form of grieving the Holy Spirit. We are told this in Ephesians 4:30, the context of which is one's conversation, and holding on to things like anger, bitterness, and wrath.

A warning is given in I Corinthians 10:6-12 about craving evil things, idolatry, acting immorally, trying the Lord, and even grumbling. Read this passage to see what God did to those in the Old Testament, as an example to all of us.

There is a story in Acts, chapter 5, of two people who offered something to God from an attitude of deceit. They were both struck dead on the spot.

Seven things that God hates are listed in Proverbs 6:16-19: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that run to evil, a false witness, and one who spreads strife among brothers. This verse could include abortion when it says "hands that shed innocent blood."

Holding on to bitterness will result in coming "short of the grace of God." (Hebrews 12:15)

No one should profess to be a Christian but be FOR homosexuality or gay marriage. I know that is tough to say, but God hates it. Read Romans 1:24-27. Let me make one thing perfectly clear. God loves them, but despises their lifestyle.

Let's not try the patience of God. Let's not do the things that He despises. Let's never take advantage of His grace.
