"Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us" - (Hebrews 12:1, KJV).
We stand in judgement everyday. The devil keeps making accusations against us. He keeps on filing cases after cases against us on a daily basis. He demands justice. He calls out our sins and shortcomings. He loses today, he files another tomorrow. It's like he keeps tabs on us, some kind of secret surveillance. He watches to see and note accurately every missteps of ours. He yearns for that moment when he can shout, "foul", "crucify him/her". He is still on his to-and-fro journey seeking whom he'll devour. He's like a predator laying in wait for the unsuspecting prey. He is witness no. 1.
We live among people and carry out our daily activities in the midst of people who will give everything to see us backslide. There are eyes that are continually set on us looking to see us fail God. They are all around us. We may or may not know, but they abide with us. They are witness no. 2.
The heavenly angels, you know those ones that have a divine mandate to minister unto us. Those angels with that difficult assignment of bearing us in their hands to prevent us from dashing our feet against a stone. Those ones watch us daily hoping that we do not fail God. They pray that we'll just let them do their work. They hope that we will stop protesting, desiring to walk on our own only to end up bashing our feet against the rock. They hope we can just let go and let God. Those angels are witness no.3.
The Almighty, Who is Omnipresent, is always watching. He knows what we are going to say before we open our mouths. He is the great Judge of all the earth and He judges even the intents of our hearts. He too is watching, hoping that we do not fail Him, hoping that we do not fall into the trap of the enemy. Hoping that we'll choose to stay in His courts rather than in the world. He sees, He knows and He is the Ultimate Witness.
All of these witnesses have their eyes set on us all the time. Some hoping we triumph, others hoping we fail. But, the choice to either triumph or fail lies with us. If we want to triumph, we must;
•lay aside every weight. All the things that set themselves above God in our lives must be abandoned.
•lay aside the sin that easily beset us. That lying tongue must be cut off. Better to make heaven with one hand than perish in hell with both.
•run with patience the race that is set before us. "But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for He that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him" - (Hebrews 11:6, KJV). We must continually wait on the Lord to bring us the future He promised.
