God Expresses Himself through Nature

The recent time change, the wind, and pollen filling the air all signal the beginning of spring. Many of us line our pockets with Kleenex and pop allergy medications like M&M’s not a pleasant time for most people. At the same time, let’s remember what spring is really about, the Lord revealing thru nature new and glorious beginnings. However, at times, they are hard to see because our world swallows us up and we become blind to God’s painting on the canvas of His world.
I was going through a tough situation the other day and the usual question rumbled through my head, “What’s this about?” Thinking some manual labor would help, I frantically began cleaning my yard. Five minutes into the cleanup I am asking, “Where’s God in this situation?” Drifting from trimming bushes, to raking leaves, and back to trimming bushes, I felt alone. I had no answers.
A steady knocking on a tree caught my attention. Following the sound, I spotted a woodpecker. He was tapping incessantly against a tree. I read that woodpeckers use the sound and pattern of their pecks to communicate. What was this bird trying to communicate to me?
Did God use this bird to let me know of His presence? I was focusing on myself, my discomfort, and not God’s power. God demonstrates from moment to moment His power and presence through nature. I have a tendency to try life on my own while ignoring the power of God.
God exposes His presence and glory in the rising and setting of the sun. I marvel as the sun changes the color of the sky. Not only does it warm our bodies it warms the entire earth in only twenty-four hours. That’s the power of God displayed through nature.
Is God’s voice the breeze that rustles through the trees? Has a breeze ever raised the hair on your arms or given you goose bumps? That could be God touching you. Have you ever sat next to a small brook and listened to the water flow over and around rocks? It is a peaceful, calming, steady flow. That’s the feelings I get when I am in step with God.
A spring rain splashing against the tree leaves is soothing. When the rain stops, freshness fills the air. The soft cooing of a morning dove hangs in the air letting me know a new day is here. That’s God’s glory and His presence. All we have to do is recognize that fact.
With the new life, spring brings, I think of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. God’s power is omnipresent and infinite. Whether it is the resurrection of Jesus Christ or the glorious manifestation of a flower in bloom, or a woodpecker communicating with his tapping, God is always present and revealing his power. The day we accepted Jesus into our hearts God became our power source.
Are we using God’s power for His glory? Do we express the magnificence and beauty of God in our life the way nature expresses Him? Is our presence a reflection of God? Nature reminds us that God’s presence, power, and glory envelop us. The earth is His canvas. He has manifested a masterpiece for us to witness His glory and power. God’s power and glory is within us. Do we use it in all areas of our life?
