If you are going to do something; do it to your full potential. Don't hold anything back. Regardless of how small and meaningless it appears to be everything we do means something. Growing up, I played baseball a lot, and this was a sport I thoroughly enjoyed. I have to admit that I was a bit prideful of my abilities on the field. I played the Catcher (player behind home plate for those unfamiliar with baseball) for a number of years, and as a result became very familiar with the ins and outs of this position. There are many requirements and pressures that are placed on the Catcher. In fact, if I had to place a value on the positions around the diamond, the Catcher would be second only to the pitcher. I realize there are people out there that would disagree with my assertion, but it is just a personal opinion of mine. The point being that even though this particular position is involved in many aspects of the game does not negate the importance of the other players on the team. For instance, a runner from the opposing team is on second base and is making his way to home plate because a teammate of his just blasted the ball into right field. He is rounding third and headed down the home stretch to score a run. If the Right Fielder has not stopped the ball, and if he does not get the ball to the Catcher, then the Catcher cannot tag the runner out.
Result, opposing team scores to win the game, your coach gets mad and blames the whole situation on the umpire who should have made a better call, or, the ineptitude of the Right Fielder who could have done a better job with the ball instead of fumbling around with it in an attempt to pick the ball up, and the Catcher takes none of the blame because, after all there is a lot of responsibility that comes along with his position. Just joking right fielders, please read further for the importance of this blog.
As born again, saved by Grace Christians, we should take the "All-in" tagline and run with it. We are all very important in our Father's eyes. "What am I called to do?" is probably a question that has popped into all of our minds at least once, whether a matured Christian or new in Christ, it is likely that we have heard this before. And.......HERES THE ANSWER! We are all called to be disciples of Christ. Our number one task as Christians is to lead others to God in whatever capacity that may be.
If you are called to be a pastor, then give it all you have; if your calling is in the area of worship, then worship with all your heart and usher the church into a meaningful experience with our God. The same can be said with any other function in and out of the church; whether that be working in the nursery, passing out bibles to the homeless, spreading the Good News to people in un-developed countries, or cleaning the toilets. Whatever you are drawn by the Holy Spirit to do, its simple, JUST DO! Some of you may be wondering how I could equate cleaning the toilets with the Holy Spirit. Servanthood is a spiritual gift. To clean the toilets in the place I go to worship my Father is a task I would do, and DO IT WITH ALL MY HEART giving it the same level of focus I would as if I were presenting a sermon to the body. Why, you ask? Because it pleases God just as much as any other talent or gift that He may have given me. Our gifts are of the utmost importance in service to our Lord, but one is not greater than the other.
We had a preacher come to our church a while back, and what he taught is an invaluable lesson that oftentimes goes unnoticed by the local body. The basis of his teaching was this; when visitors enter our church, do they know where the sanctuary is? Are signs posted giving direction? What about the restrooms, is there anyone around that can direct them and are they clean? Now, put that into context. The first things noticed are the ease of going into the building and having a direction. The next thing observed is the cleanliness of the bathroom. Gives a whole new perspective on cleaning the toilets, huh? To think that this person; broken, depressed, looking for new life, searching for God, will never again grace the door of our Father's House because the toilet is not clean is unacceptable to me as a Christian, Cultural Dictionary A follower or disciple of Jesus; someone who believes Jesus is the Christ or Messiah. The New Testament mentions that the followers of Jesus were first called Christians within a few years after his death. . This is in direct contrast with the number one responsibility we have as Christians, and that is to lead others to Christ. Just remember, even though your ministry may not be visible; it is just as valuable as any other function in the body of Christ.
Polish, shine, and hone the gifts we have so that, regardless of what they may be, we lead others to God by multiplication through our ministry.
