Christians cannot prove the existence of God, but neither can atheists disprove it. Just because there is a lot of sickness, evil, and injustice in the world does not mean there is no God.
Let me ask the question, "Why do so many people choose to do wrong?" To say that they do not choose is to say that something makes them do it. To blame other people, the environment, the way they were raised, or circumstances, is irresponsible and programmed conditioning.
The human race is not a bunch of robots with no choice. We have freedom of will to choose our thoughts, words, and actions. Therefore, we are responsible for our choices. Obviously, because of so much trouble in our world, men and women are prone to making wrong choices and to be selfish. This is played out from the time children are born. We do not have to train our children to do wrong.
Let's go to the Book of Genesis to see how this all works. Adam sinned. He blamed it on Eve. She blamed it on the serpent. They both played the blame game. People still do that today. Human nature has not changed.
Cain killed Abel because he CHOSE to allow bitterness to build up. This led to murder. Again, we see the same pattern today, only worse. Today people are killing each other over very petty things.
As long as there is casting of blame, finger pointing, people feeling like they are programmed by society or the media (which they CHOOSE to watch), music (which they CHOOSE to listen to), and in some cases no longer have a conscience, there will be evil in the world.
There are still unanswered questions. Some adversity is allowed for a greater purpose, and good things can come from it. One thing is certain. Mankind needs a redemptive savior, and that Savior is Jesus Christ. He will give people a new heart and a new attitude. You will CHOOSE to be responsible for your actions. You will recognize your sinful condition. Your conscience will be restored.
I talked to a man after I spoke at the mission recently. He was a non-believer for most of his life. He used the same arguments we have discussed. He finally realized that he had a free will combined with a sinful human nature. He needed a new heart. Jesus will give you a new heart, and then you will CHOOSE to use your free will to honor God and to love others.
