I can never understand the concept of two parties going to war and each is praying for God to give it victory. And even harder to understand is that each side has its "priest" to intone God on its behalf and he, knowing that his side may be in the wrong, still goes ahead and ask God for victory. In truth what each "priest" should be asking for is that God's will be done, so leaving it to God's good pleasure to do what he pleases.
In our work of rebuilding the wall of Christian values we can be bold, and unapologetic, in asking God to strengthen our hands and shower us with blessings that we might successfully complete the tasks assigned to us.
Not everyone has the same task to do, for in rebuilding the values that the Godless society is chipping away, we, of necessity, have to share the load. Some would do one task and some another just as if we were building a natural wall. In building a real wall some would mix the mortar, some would transport the mix, some would lay the blocks, some would deal with the scaffolding, some would do the cleaning up, some would supervise, some would cut blocks, some would cover the blocks for protection, and some would do other things.
But all would be busy doing his appointed task.
However it is but natural that sometimes we get weary, and disconsolate, and we feel weak, and in truth feel like giving up. Although we are told not to get weary in well-doing; still it happens.
When a bout of "I can't do this anymore" grips you, just remember that you are in exalted company, and God understands and he will come to your rescue just as he did for the others.
• Moses was like this and God helped him (Numbers 11:14-15)
• Elijah was like this and God helped him (1 Kings 19:4)
• David was like this and God helped him (Psalm 142:4)
• Jonah was like this and God helped him (Jonah 4:3)
• Even Job was like this and God helped him (Job 3:24-25)
Remember that when Nehemiah faced the enormous task of rebuilding the wall around Jerusalem he did not rely solely on his own strength, "For they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it be not done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands." (Nehemiah 6:9)
And so to conclude this devotional we pray:
Father in heaven we ask that you strengthen our hands for the work we are doing and all the undertakings we shall complete in your name. Bless, we pray you, everyone engaged in doing this grand and vital work of rebuilding Christian values and help us to be faithful and true to you for we ask it in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ with thanksgiving, Amen.
