Saturday 1/25/14 Pastor Kenneth Take a Stand! Exodus 1:15-21
==============================================================
As believers, we need to decide at what point does a person have a soul. We can argue about the right to life issue but biblically we must ask at what point is a soul a soul. For myself, it is at the point of conception. We must look at the scripture text and see what happened. These two midwives were ordinary people and they were called to take a stand. We, as ordinary believers have to take a stand too. These women had ordinary jobs as ordinary people, were living ordinary lives and they were called to take a stand like we are.
The King of Egypt ordered them to kill all Jewish boy babies when they were delivered. These women, the mid-wives, feared God. They knew that God holds us accountable for what we do. These women also feared God with awe and reverence. They knew God provides life to all. The fear of God they had is why they went against the great king, who was the authority in the land. We, who are ordinary people, will get called by God to take a stand too.
These mid-wives kept the Jewish baby boys alive, despite what the king had ordered. When the king of Egypt asked them why the boys were alive, they lied and said the boys were already delivered by the time they got to the Jewish mothers. This kind of lying can be said to be okay because it is in God’s purpose. Also, these women had made a decision. It was an in-your-face decision in front of the king of Egypt. They decided they would give their lives for the stand they took. They decided that they were doing things God’s way, fearing God more than fearing the Egyptian king. They took a stand because they feared God more!
This taking a stand is what Martin Luther did when he took a stand against the Catholic church. This is when the reformation in the church began. Martin Luther refused to deny his beliefs in what the bible says. We, as believers, will be called to take a stand for Jesus and God’s word. As ordinary people we will be called to take a stand out of fear of God and out of our reverence and belief in God! Be ready to take a stand that Jesus is Lord of All!!
