You Can Have Peace
By Rick L King
Dec 13, 2013
The world right now is obviously in a sad state of chaos. There are wars, there are natural disasters, people are losing all they own, marriages are in trouble, health care has become an object of concern, etc. Do you know that in spite of all these things that you can be at peace?
All these things are external. God offers us peace even in the storms of life. So how do we gain this peace?
First of all you must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. My previous article posted called "You Can Know" is the first thing that you need to get settled. Nothing is sure these days. We could be here today and gone tomorrow. Wouldn't it be nice to know where you are going? Wouldn't it be nice to live above all this mess and be at peace?
Where does peace come from?
Galatians 5:22 says: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Peace is one of the fruit of the Spirit of God. Peace is an internal thing. It comes by the Spirit not our head. Our head can take us in all kind of directions and get us into trouble big time. It is important that we learn to live by the Spirit of God rather than our head.
John 14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
Jesus said that he will not leave us comfortless!
John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
The comforter is the answer which is the Holy Ghost.
Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
How are we to be filled with the Holy Spirit?
Luke 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
How did we get saved? We asked God to save us right? Well we are filled with the Holy Spirit the same way. We ask according to the above scripture. God has his ways and timing. Scripture tells in the book of Acts that hands were laid on people and they were filled with the Holy Spirit.
My personal experience:
I had been saved a short time. I went to a Women's Aglow meeting with the lady that had led me to Jesus. We were worshiping the Lord. I had my hands up and next thing I knew was that my legs turned to what seemed like rubber. I could hardly stand up. I had no idea why or what was happening so I asked a person about this. I was told that I needed to go up front and get prayed for. Well I knew something wasn't working in my legs so I figured that I had nothing to lose. I went up front and stood in front of the lady that was leading the meeting. She asked me if I knew multiple scriptures. I knew none as I had just gotten saved not too many weeks back. She then said let me pray for you. She started praying over me and touched lightly my forehead with a finger. I fell over backward. I ended up under a chair. When I came too, I was totally drunk in the Spirit. The power of God was all over me. I got up off of the floor after many attempts and staggered all over the room. I was at such peace though I couldn't do too well walking. After going home I think this lasted on me about four hours total. This was the most glorious experience I had ever known. I laid on the couch and started speaking in tongues. My life changed dramatically after that. I was filled with the Holy Spirit. I had peace that I never knew could be. I was able to hear the Holy Spirit speaking to me and found myself being led by His Spirit.
The odd thing was for me at least this happened at God's time and choosing. I knew nothing of this experience. I had seen people being slain in the Spirit before and I didn't really believe that this could be of God. Yet, God in his grace and mercy knew I needed this to fulfill what He had called me to do. I know our head will say that this is nonsense just like mine did. But I assure you that this was the best thing that ever happened to me outside of being saved. That experience has caused me to be able to write. You see I don't just sit down and decide to write something. The Holy Spirit puts things in me and I just try to write what I am shown. People have said that I am a scribe. I am only what I am because of what He did and is making me to be.
Some years ago I was troubled about some things that I thought should happen. I had prayed and prayed but nothing changed. I finally got a little upset. The Lord gave me peace over the things. I decided however (my flesh was at work) that this was not a good enough answer. I wanted to see the things change. Peace was nice but not the answer that I wanted. To my surprise the Lord took away my peace for 3 weeks. I was miserable. I had to repent and say OK Lord peace is a good thing. He then gave me my peace back. You see God has his own way and time in doing things. My patience was just thin and I suffered for it for three weeks.
No I have little trouble with all the crud going on in the world. I do not get too concerned any more. Why, because He has given me peace inside. I know that He knows about everything and He will do what He wants when He wants. He instructs me on what he wants me to do. It is of no value to take on all the issues and problems that in my strength I cannot fix anyway. He tells me to just do what He shows me and He will take care of the rest. Isn't that a much easier way to stand in this crazy world? You can have peace inside no matter what happens around you. You learn that it is Him and not you. You learn to be content with or without like Paul said in the Word.
I would encourage you to seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Ask him just like you did when you were saved or born again. Receive by faith. Trust Him and in His way and time you will be filled. You will never be sorry by tasting of the Lord. You will find that He is good!!!!..
Psalms 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
You will have peace and power after the Holy Ghost is upon you. Our strength is not sufficient to cause us to be at peace or stand. We can stand in power, and in peace using His strength. Praise God for sending the Holy Ghost!
