BATTLE READY
Freelance writer Lupie Riley
The city of Colorado Springs is home to five major military installations and affiliates. Hundreds of our brave men and women leave for duty everyday to distant foreign countries, most come back but sadly a few return in coffins. When they go into battle they carry over 50 lbs of military gear to protect themselves and their comrade's in their unit. Their battle ready.
As Christians are we equipped for the battle or have we been lulled into a state of apathy through sugar coated, fuzzy warm gospel messages that come out of flavored coffee, music filled assemblies that we call churches. Are today’s Shepherds preparing the flock for the wolf invasions?
What does it mean to be a warrior for Christ? The dictionary defines a warrior as " a brave or experience soldier or fighter." Does this fit a description of ourselves?
God's Word is filled with stories of empowered and battle ready hero's that took on their enemies. They faced their battles head-on. Most were victorious but some lost their lives like the major and Minor Prophets of old that spoke out against the Evils of their day. A woman who put on the battle gear was Esther who trusted God to deliver her from death as she approached the King on behalf of her people. David in his youth armed himself with a slingshot and five stones--one for Goliath and the other four for his brothers. He was prepared to take them all down because his faith was in his God who would go into the battle with him. All through David’s life he fought as a warrior trusting Jehovah for strength and victory over the enemy. Then there’s Daniel who was delivered from hungry lions when he defied the Kings orders. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego took a stand against the Evil leaders of their day and escaped the hot flames of a fiery furnace. They made a profound statement to their rulers and those around them that their God was the God of all Creation and the only one to be worshipped. Moses was in his 80's when he began his battle with the Egyptian Pharaoh for the freedom of the Israeli nation. He brought them out of bondage and into an adventure that took every ounce of strength he had as a leader. Then there was Noah who endured the heckling and abuse from all those all around him during the 150 years it took him to build the ark. He persevered and was battle ready for what lay ahead all because he was obedient to God's calling. The list goes on....
Are today's Christians equipped for the everyday battles they face? Do they live in a world of complacency, indifferent to the world’s downward spiral into a dark, moral void? Satan in his wisdom has robbed Christians of their power through worldly distraction of movies, games, sports and tech gadgets so that the Word (spiritual food) and communication (prayer) is scarce or non-existent. They are rendered weak, splintered and unable to win the battles before them and God gets the scraps of their time that is left over.
Comfortable in the sin their in without any thought of repentance and renewal with their Creator they go on with their daily living unaware of the pending dangers ahead.
It's time for America's Christian's to come out of the world, put on the armor and return to a life that is God centered. Can we for one moment imagine this world without Christian's who are in the front lines fighting for Godly principals? Without the resistance from Christian's there would be no one in the battle to fight abortion (the killing of innocence), homosexuality (a sin against God), same sex marriage (the remaking of marriage between a man and a women), the elimination of God in our schools and institutions, the merging of Christianity and Islam (Chrislam) and all those issues that make a mockery out of God's spoken Word. It would be a dark world indeed.
Jesus is the light that shines out from all those who through repentance, have invited Him into their lives (John 1:1-5). What kind of a wake up call will it take to put Christians back on track? His Word says that we fight against a spiritual warfare..” Last of all I want to remind you that your strength must come from the Lord’s mighty power within you. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand safe against all strategies and tricks of Satan. For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against persons without bodies—the evil rulers of the unseen world, those mighty satanic beings and great evil princes of darkness who rule this world; and against huge numbers of wicked spirits in the spirit world (Eph. 6:10-12).
Are we battle ready? Reading on it says we need the equipment to protect ourselves against the enemy, Satan..”So use every piece of God’s armor to resist the enemy whenever he attacks, and when it is all over, you will still be standing up (Eph. 6:13-16). All war's, death and destruction is from the Evil One. His purpose is the steal, kill and destroy. Is our faith and knowledge of God's Word part of our battle gear to take on the arrows from the dark side?
What does it mean to be a Christian Warrior?
Quote: A Christian Warrior is someone who is not afraid to pick up their cross and follow Christ. They know that to live is Christ and to die is gain, and they are willing to give what they cannot keep to gain what they cannot lose. They live by The Vision. They wake up every morning prepared for battle, waging the war against sin and death so that all might come to life in Christ. They are fearless. Unafraid, they boldly face persecution, ridicule and even torture with unwavering faith and a steadfast heart.
Their battles are often silent
Their victories go unnoticed by the world
They fight not against people but against sin
They do not strive for earthly treasure, but for heavenly rewards
They wield the weapons of truth (God’s Word) prayer (intimacy with God) and love (Jesus presence)
I am proud to be a Christian Warrior.
