Jesus: The Light Of The World (TLOTW)
John 8:12 (ESV) Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
It is truly amazing how many people do not seem to understand this simple message Jesus taught. In essence, as with all Jesus Teaching he wanted the people to copy and apply his teaching into their lives. In doing so, "Light" would be made of all their lives encompassed.
Let us begin by looking at how in Jesus mind he defined and applied the word "Light" by reading "All Ways" (AW, sounding out says; "a double u"). So, what does "a double u" actually mean? It means simply as the Bible states many times that we Host the Holy Spirit if we so choose, this is the "Gift" Jesus left us. So, now this is understood we can continue with reading All Ways into the Light for all Jesus intended us to learn.
The Word; "Light" as we all know has various definitions. As Jesus stated also; "listen to ALL I have said" meaning that we should hear, listen and apply ALL variations to see the whole picture of his Teachings and apply them accordingly.
Light - not heavy; aleviating burden and hardship to a minimum Light - knowledge opens peoples eyes and brings them out of the darkness, or a place where they cannot see.
An extension of Light is heat, radiating "warmth". Warm things are usually comforting and bring peace, whereas the opposite; coldness, usually brings hardship and conflict.
We could extend this a little further into the modern world and its mainstream saying of -"light-heartedness makes easy of any task", a saying that I believe does reflect reality. Linking back to Jesus Teachings of charity reflects the saying - "many hands make Light work", this too is very true. And of course, radiates a warmth of peace and harmony between all things and people involved.
Of the latter of Jesus Teaching in this Book, Chapter & Verse he goes on to say; " he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life". In this statement Jesus message is made very clear for those who can truly hear. Jesus did not mean that people "follow" him in a physical sense, but to follow his teachings.
Knowledge gives us the power to understand and understanding keeps us in the "Light" of "knowingness" or knowing how best we can live in harmony not only with each other but with God also. To follow Jesus teachings means the quality of our lives and the lives of those around us would be enhanced richly to a divine-like quality.
A divine-like quality of life is the road to joy, peace and happiness. However, we cannot simply apply Jesus teachings to ourselves and expect that our lives will be filled with all good things. There are other people and elements to be considered in the equation that can no doubt impact on our lives.
As we do with the Internet, we follow the "links" to reach our goal. Jesus teachings and even the Bible as a whole are much the same. We cannot simply "pick-out" the bits and pieces and apply each individually. Jesus teachings are a "collective" of instructions along the path to a more peaceful and joyous lifestyle. Needless to say, if others around us are on a different path or contrary to our own according to Jesus teachings we cannot really expect to reap the benefits entirely.
However, by following other instructions or teachings Jesus gave us we can adapt our behaviour in a disciplined but loving manner accordingly and make appropriate responses to the behaviour of others for the benefit of all concerned including ourselves.
Jesus Teachings are a bit like a ladder; each step brings us closer to a more divine-like lifestyle.
Therefore following the teachings of Jesus brings Light into our lives, we no longer live in darkness (ignorance), our burdens are less heavy to carry and our hardships made easier (lighter).
I have always seen Jesus not only as a great teacher and prophet, but also a GP (General Practitioner) because Gods Plan also bears the same initials; GP. I have not yet encountered anyone yet who followed to the Letter the teachings of Jesus who did not benefit at every level of life.
On a final note; "Jesus is not about religion, but love, charity and good-will for all". If anything it would appear more-so than not that Jesus came on God's instructions to drive out the "darkness" of religion that has mislead the people and kept them ignorant of the truth. As Jesus said himself; "listen to what they say, but do not do as they do for they do not do as they say they do". Jesus was virtually expelled from the church for bringing Gods Word to the people to free them from the bonds of slavery that institutionalized religion had formulated, implemented and inflicted upon them.
In todays world, the truth of the church is on display for the whole world to see, let us hope and pray to God the people can now see Jesus message more clearly. I won't go so far as to say that all who are connected with the church have failed humanity; but it is true to say that those who didn't made little or no effort to prevent further failings by the church, thus they too become an accessory after the fact to the crimes against humanity.
Hopefully, our new Pope; Pope Francis will display a genuine desire to bring the truth of Jesus message to the people. I do hope he is simply not another "show-pony" so the church can maintain its accumulated wealth as it has done to date and beyond what is almost incomprehensible for most of us to even begin to imagine. A wealth built upon the lives of others who gave in good faith to - "the wolves in sheeps clothing".
Jesus teachings bring salvation, by following his instructions (given by God), you lay the path to freedom of the whole person at every level; mind, body and spirit.
Jesus teachings can be found in the Book Of Life (BOwL), more-so than a religious book as many believe it is. How religion can claim the Book to be "religious" is absurd given that it covers every subject even in todays curriculum! It is a book about "life", not specific to religion; it is a special book filled with helpful advice on everything from science to child-rearing!
