FROM MOURNING TO DANCING
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. Isaiah 61:1-3;
Mourning is a state of gloominess when a person finds it much easier to grief than to laugh. There are many things which cause people to be sorrowful or mourn. The loss of a loved one, failure of business, breakage in relationship, delay in marriage, delay in childbearing, loss of employment, experience of disappointments among others are part of the things which are capable of causing sorrow in the heart of a man. However, for the children of Zion, it is not the will of God that we should mourn or live with sorrow. Isaiah 53:4A says ‘Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows’. The reason the Lord Jesus took away our sorrows is because it’s not God’s desire that we live with sorrow and grief here on earth. God’s earnest desire is that we live in and experience unending joy which is an integral part of our inheritance in Christ as believers.
Turning your sorrow into dancing starts with you! Happiness is a personal decision! If you decide you won’t be happy till you have something or until certain things happen in your life, then you are not likely to get out of sorrow in a hurry! Listen, you don’t have to postpone your joy until something you’re expecting happens or till you have a particular thing you desire. Nightingale is a small bird that is particularly celebrated for its melodious love songs. But one striking thing about this small creature is that it is in the night it usually sings! In the dead of the night, when the atmosphere is dull and gloomy, when there’s no brightness, excitement or merriment, nightingale is still able to sing beautiful and melodious songs! The secret: nightingale obviously is a bird that does not depend on what is happening around to determine its happiness! To quickly get out of sorrow into dancing, you must learn from nightingale. Rejoice and make melody in your heart unto the Lord even if your situation and circumstance is as gloomy as the night! Ephesians 5:19-20 says ‘Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ’. Nothing turns mourning to dancing like letting gratitude flow from your heart to God, even while you’re passing through what can be described as ‘nights’!
Also, for sorrow and mourning to flee away from your life permanently, one thing you must never lack is the presence of God. It does not matter what or who you have around your life, if God is absent, you’re empty, there’s no way you can experience true joy! People, who pursue happiness at all costs but have left God out, will always discover that the equations can never balance; it takes the Almighty God alone to hold your life together at the centre, nothing can, no one else on earth can! Consequently, any attempt to place something else in the position God is supposed to occupy in your life will only lead to frustration and hopelessness. If God’s presence is with you, sorrow or mourning will never find a resting place in your life; no matter the difficulties or challenges that come your way, His presence will create an atmosphere of absolute peace and joy around your life and this will cause you to dance while others are mourning.
It’s important to state that those who will have their sorrows turned into dancing are only those who see beyond their present situations. It does not matter what you’re passing through at the moment, one conscious decision you must make is to always see through the situations into a better and brighter tomorrow. This is what empowers you to face the future with hope. Psalm 30:5B says ‘weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning’. You must always see beyond the night into a bright and shining day because your joy is just around the corner! With every day that passes, the expiry date of your problem is fast approaching and your time of celebration is getting closer! As long as you don’t stop seeing a better tomorrow, you are bound to come out strong from your challenges; no force on earth can deny you glorious celebrations!
In conclusion, no matter the situation you find yourself, you’re not permitted to go about wearing mournful look in a bid to announce to the whole world that you’re passing through challenges so as to attract sympathies from people. Unfortunately the world is not ready to mourn with anyone and this why you must never make yourself an object of pity. Someone once said that ‘If you laugh, the whole world will laugh with you, but if you weep, you will weep alone’! For everyone that is mourning in Zion, God has promised to turn your sorrow into dancing and give you beauty for ashes. Isaiah 51:11 says ‘Therefore the redeemed of the LORD shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away’. It does not matter how long you’ve been living in sorrow, just a moment of joy is sufficient to wipe away memory of many years of mourning! Get ready to burst into laughter and great celebrations, the Almighty God is turning your mourning into dancing! Amen.
Shalom.
