My Dream: A Visit from a Demon
By Sandy Howard
Wow! I almost didn’t submit the demon dream article, but I am so glad that I did! I received so many responses that I decided to write a follow up article, for several reasons.
The first reason is because I received so many responses from other Christians who shared similar experiences. Actually, some of the ‘demon visitations’ were MUCH worse than mine and some would make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end, just to read them, let alone experience them! So, reason number one: people, we are not alone!
Second – secrecy and fear. Many people felt like they would be ridiculed and called crazy weirdoes or leaning to dramatic exaggerations if they shared their experiences so most either have kept them to themselves or only shared with a few trusted friends or family. As one person who responded to the original article put it: “Funny, isn’t it, how we as Americans are too ‘sophisticated’ to entertain the supernatural when it comes to faith in God, but we’re all too willing to believe in psychics and other such rubbish.” Another put it this way: “All my life, I never said anything to anyone about these things because, as a Christian, I knew we are not supposed to dabble in anything like that although I never sought it or pursued it or even shared it.” And some people expressed fears that their experiences might be perceived as them having ‘little faith’ or maybe as being in a backslidden state or something like that if they were to ‘tell’.
Third – demonic activity seems to be escalating and most believe the veil between us and the evil spiritual world is thinning. I think satan knows that his time is growing short so he is ramping up his activities in any way he can think of in an effort to scare us or at least distract us from witnessing to the lost in these last days. Remember that, although none of us knows the day nor the hour, including satan, he knows Bible prophecy probably better than we do so he is at least as aware as we are of what ‘time’ it is. And, although I think he also knows that he cannot have us Christians, if he can deter us or distract us from reaching even one more person for Christ, then he has accomplished his goal.
Fourth - the Name of Jesus works! It’s like pouring acid in the devil’s face! No demon can overcome Him and someday we will look down on satan and his demons in the abyss of hell and say “so, that’s the puny little creep that was causing all the trouble?!” I really like what I heard David Reagan say one time….”when satan tries reminding me of my past, I just remind him of his future and he slinks away”! I love that! So, remember, when the devil is trying to intimidate, terrorize or threaten you, remember what his ultimate destination is….and remember what YOURS is too!
Fifth – PRAY! Pray for protection from evil and pray for each other! I don’t think anything that God does is nonchalant or without purpose, so that means there is a reason why He instructed us, in His ‘blueprint’ for how to pray, usually referred to as ‘The Lord’s Prayer’, to ask Him to ‘deliver us from evil’. I think He wants us to ask Him for this protection and deliverance…..because He knows we need it! Another responder to the original demon dream article said “There are things going on around us that are beyond our comprehension and just beyond our conscious awareness.” I agree with that. So, we need to put on our whole armor of God! Pray, pray, pray! Ask God daily to deliver you from evil. And ask Him daily to deliver all those of us who are fighting the good fight. I even heard someone say recently that we need to ask God to remove impurities from our food when we say Grace. Sounds like a good idea to me.
Sixth – Persevere! Until we hear that trumpet sound, we must keep on keeping on and fighting the good fight. First, make sure you are on the Right side of this war, because TRUST ME, you do not want to be on the losing team on this one people! Then, know your enemy, trust in God, remember that you are of God and remember that He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. Someone else reminded me of the verse that says ‘Do you not know that we shall judge angels?’ By the way, you ARE in this battle, whether you want to be or not. The time is past (actually there never was an idle time) for remaining neutral or watching from the sidelines. You have a job to do. I have a job to do. We all have a job to do. There are many ways in which we can ‘fight’ so ask the Commander in Chief what He wants your roll to be. I encourage us all (no finger pointing here, I’m talking to myself too) to examine all the ways in which we can be of use.
Finally – Be thankful for God’s promises and for His protection and for His blessings. Be thankful for the abilities and talents you have been given and be thankful that you are able to use them for His Glory. We are blessed to be living in these last days in my opinion and I feel honored and humbled to be chosen for this generation. Remember what I said above about ‘know your enemy’ – you know what your enemy wants most? He wants to be God because he wants to be worshipped. Deny him his victory by giving ALL praise and glory to God our Father and Creator. We already know Who wins in the end (check out the back of the Book if you aren’t sure) and we know Who is on our side in this battle between good and evil.
Praise His Holy Name! And please come quickly Lord Jesus! I want to go HOME!
Here are some verses to check out. (All Scripture NKJV)
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Matthew 6:9-13
Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
Luke 10:19
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
James 4:7
You are my hiding place; you shall preserve me from trouble; you shall surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah.
Psalm 32:7
You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
1 John 4:4
Do you not know that we shall judge angels? How much more, things that pertain to this life?
1 Corinthians 6:3
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out “Abba, Father.”
Romans 8:15
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
2 Timothy 1:7
And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues
Mark 16:17
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Ephesians 6:10-12
