Why so worried?
Time and time again, I speak with individuals who express to me how worried they are about this or that. They even g so far as to seek out as nuch information as they can about an issue, only fueling the fires of anxiety. Even people who seem filled with faith will confess their tendency to wring their hands over matters completely out of their control. They go from being Prayer Warriors to Prayer WORRIERS.
Why do we worry? Truth is, we never have enough information to warrant worrying about anything. Think about that. Without any details at all, our mind runs amok with a million different possible scenarios, none of which are based on any facts at all. I've even read that over 90% of that which we CHOOSE to worry about has no factual basis and never comes to pass. Imagine that! What an incredible waste of emotional energy!
What do these Scriptures tell us about worrying?
Matthew 6:27-29
Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don't work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are.
Translation: Worrying accomplishes NOTHING!
Proverbs 12:25
Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up.
Translation: Worry is a mental burden that can even lead to illness.
Matthew 6:30
And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?
Translation: Worry is a tremendous waste of energy. Next time you feel pulled in that direction, pray about the issue. It will increase your faith and trust in God.
Matthew 6:25
That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life-whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn't life more than food, and your body more than clothing?
Matthew 6:31-33
So don't worry about these things, saying, 'What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?' These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.
1 Peter 5:7
Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.
Translation: With faith in God, we realize there's really NOTHING to worry about.
One of my favorite verses of Scripture is Philippians 4:6. Great advice! It says, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.”
Remember, we who follow Christ walk by faith, not by sight... or details, rumors or substantiated facts, for that matter. Hebrews 11:1 defines faith this way: "Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see."
We've all heard the old adage, "An idle mind is the devil's playground." Truth is, Satan and his minions are in an all-out war to capture our imaginations; they really do want your mind. How can we focus on the things of God and the cause of Christ when the focus of our attention has been trained to worrying about something... anything at all?
Let's make up our minds to GIVE our minds over to Jesus, trying our best to RENEW our minds by filling it with God's Word, casting down those thoughts that don't originate from Him, and trying our best to think about things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely and admirable. Good luck with that while living in this cesspool called "Earth" where our minds are bombarded with ungodliness.
But it CAN be done! It MUST!
Try turning each ungodly encounter into an opportunity to pray and see how Satan deals with THAT!
Every blessing,
