A Real Basket Case
I don’t know if I should share what I have been thinking about lately.
It involves another person. I really don’t like to tell stories about other people without their permission. Besides, I heard about this guy through someone else. It might be considered gossip.
Ok! We are all friends here right? I've got to tell someone! After hearing his story, all I can say is WOW! The things he went through.
I've been having some pretty tough times. The problem is when I can’t control the outcome of things; I become a real basket case. I can become a bit wild, and frantic.
I was sharing this with a friend who told me about this guy who really was a basket case.
After hearing about this fellow and his family, I’m thinking I’m being pretty silly to try to control my destiny.
This fellow’s family lost a battle to a king and was captured. The king made them all slaves. These people had been slaves so long that many generations were born into the life of slavery and that was all they knew.
However, this guy was even worse off than that. He was born to be a basket case. He was destined to die the minuet he was born because he was male.
Before he was born the king decided there were to many slave, so he passed a law that all male children born were to be killed.
I remember as a parent looking forward to the birth of our children. I can’t even imagine the stress this family was under, just because the baby might be a boy.
Three months after he was born, the mother could no longer hide the child. She actually took this little guy, put him in a basket, and then sent him down the river. With I’m sure a scared prayer for his protection.
The rivers current took the basket right past this place the king’s daughter like to go to bathe. She saw the basket and had it retrieved so she could look at it. When she found the baby boy, she couldn't believe it. She decided to keep the baby boy and raise him.
She must have been real special to her father the king because I’m sure her father knew this wasn't a child of his people. He knew it was likely one that was supposed to be killed. However he gave into his daughter’s wishes and the child went from being a basket case to royalty in a day’s time.
I told my friend there had to be someone looking out for this guy to be that lucky!
My friend answered that there was. “We call him God. He looks out for everyone.” Then he pointed to me and said yes “even you!” He told me I should read a book in the Bible called Exodus. I would be real surprised at the amazing things God can accomplish with our lives.
I got a Bible and read the book of exodus. This book was mostly about this guy that started out as a basket case. The story showed me how God had everything planned out. How God can take the weakest people and do the greatest things with them.
God took this child destined to die, put him in a basket, to be rescued by the very people who wanted to kill him. Then when the fellow grows up and thinks he still has a messed up life, God finds him and uses him to free all the slaves.
I bet he didn't know his destiny would be to help lead a whole nation to a new life and a new land.
My real discovery is that I became a basket case, unable to accomplish anything because I was trying to control my own destiny, instead of letting God take care of me.
God already knows my future and his plans are always better than mine. I just need to let him have my life. Well I need to go, but thanks for letting me talk about this Guy. By the way in case you don’t know him, I don’t think he would mind me telling you. His name is Moses.
