I understand why You’re jealous

When I look at all of the things

You’ve done for me-

Only for me to turn and walk away

Not thinking twice about it.


That MUST hurt.


Your’re justifiably jealous.

And if I were You,

I’d be jealous too.


I understand why You’re jealous,

When the only reason I am still living and breathing,

Is because You blow your precious breathe of life

Into my nostrils every day,

And I take that breathe to do and say and think things

that defy you…

The one who keeps giving me a

Second,

Third,

Fourth,

And fifth chance to get this thing called life right.


That MUST hurt.


And if I were You,

I wouldn’t give me another breathe.

But because of Your grace and mercy, You refuse to let me go.

I can understand why You would be jealous

As you sit back and watch me get out of bed every morning

And get dressed, while all along, you are eagerly awaiting

For me to say "good morning" to you, or at least

In some way acknowledge your presence.


But instead-

I go about my daily business

Without giving you a second thought,

Or a FIRST thought, for that matter.


That HAS to hurt!!


It was a day that You would have loved

To let Your Light shine and radiate

Through me,

So the whole world can see

How wonderful you are.


But I didn’t even acknowledge You.

I shut You out.


That MUST hurt!


I can understand why You’re jealous

When I look at how many times

You have kept me safe from danger.

I see allllllllllll of the battles You have fought for me.

Fights that I could never win alone.

You’ve always been my protector

And for me to ignore You and not give You Your due praise…


That MUST hurt!


It must hurt to be a Provider for someone

who never pauses for a moment

just to say "thank you."


That’s GOTTA hurt!


I understand why You’re jealous

When You have always remained faithful to me,

While I go out and commit spiritual adultery

With every idol thing the world sends my way.


That’s GOTTA hurt!

And yet You continue to remain faithful.


Faithful but JEALOUS.

And justifiably so!


Then You stretched out Your hands that made me

And finally said enough is enough!

You knew exactly what to do

To bring my attention back to You.


You’ve got my undivided attention.


It took You’re wrath to make me see

That You meant business when You said

I shall have no other gods before THEE.


I thank You for who You are and what You’ve done for me.

You gave Your only Son to die on the cross in my stead,

All because You loved me so.


And now that I am back in Your arms again,

I promise to stay and never let go.

You’ve placed a mechanism within me

To let me know what it feels like to be jealous.


And you did justifiably so!
