We all know that a whole paper could be written on all the current events, issues, and problems in the world today. Why is so much happening? It is my prayer that this article will result in more awareness and understanding of current events from a spiritual perspective. It is meant primarily for non-Christians.
Mankind has certainly missed the mark when it comes to making the world a peaceful place with equality for all, and no poverty or hunger. People have messed up. It started back in the book of Genesis when Adam and Eve desired to live life apart from God's commands. Since then every person has been born with a sinful nature, but free choice.
If you do not think that this a fair assessment consider several factors. People have a free choice as to how they behave and for the decisions they make. Young infants and children growing up have a natural tendency to be selfish and to want their own way. Many people, not all, have a bent toward doing the wrong things and thinking wrong thoughts. Gangs in major cities choose to do negative, destructive things instead of constructive activities that will benefit the community. Mankind has free choice, but with a tendency to act wrongfully. People, in general, do not have to be trained to do wrong.
Unfortunately, religion has messed up also. Some people who claim to be religious have lived lives contrary to what one might expect. Some religions can't get along. There have been numerous religious wars down through the centuries. This is because not all religions are centered on God or spiritual truth. They are man-made, with just a bunch of rules. This is especially true of cults. So, religion without God has often been a blight on society. Religion is made up of sinful people.
The bottom line is tht people have chosen to live a life apart from God. The Ten Commandments are a prime example. Just think how much better a place the world would be if everyone followed them. The problem is that people do not want to be accountable to a creator and it also gets back to the natural tendency of people to choose not to do right. So, you do not believe in God? Well, whether there is a God or not, I think you would agree, the world has messed up. Has the world been a better place without a God you choose not to believe in?
Then there is the issue of taking personal responsibility for one's actions. This was also first demonstrated back in Genesis in the Garden of Eden. Adam blamed Eve, and Eve blamed the serpent, which was the personification of Satan.
The Bible, thousands of years ago, prophesied that the world would be experiencing the distress and upheaval we see today. The Gospel of Matthew, in chapter 24, lists many things:
false teachers, wars, nations rising aginst nations, famines, earthquakes, persecution of people holding to the truth, falling away from the truth, hatred, and lawlessness.
We are now living in the "age of grace." God is giving every person an opportunity to accept His love and forgiveness, but it is not automatic nor universal.
The day is rapidly approaching when this present era of grace will come to an end, and the Tribulation Period will begin for seven years, which many people believe we are already in, a time "such has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever shall." (Matthew 24:21)
After this Jesus will return to earth and will show people how to get things right. However, before this happens things are going to get a whole lot worse, as mentioned in Revelation chapters 8-9, and 16.
People who don't take advantage of receiving Jesus' love and forgiveness during the age of grace we live in now, will bear the brunt of God's wrath during the Tribulation Period. God is doing everything in His power and grace to help people see the truth and to come to repentence, but with all the horrible judgments to come there will still be those who refuse to call upon God for their salvation.
If you say you do not believe the Bible to be the inspired Word of God you are willfully rejecting it, because there is overwhelming support and evidence for divine inspiration, and the literal fulfillment of prophecy.
At the present time, the Holy Spirit is indwelling the lives of millions of Christians around the world, and He is a restraining influence, otherwise the world would be in a whole lot worse shape than it is. You can thank all of the true Christians for that.
This is God's grand scenario unfolding, to reveal the true character of mankind without God, but to also redeem people for eternal salvation. The only Savior is Jesus Christ. Call upon Him today.
