What's To Eat?
Many of us dream of becoming spiritual giants;
but unless we take time to meditate on Gods Word daily,
we will never get a grip on our appetite for the things of this world.

I sit here tonight just arriving home after an intense work out with my trainer. God has blessed me with a dear neighbor and friend who has taken up the challenge to help me get into physical shape. Firstly, when you choose a trainer, you should make sure they are someone you want to emulate. Cher is just that. She is diligent in her exercise routine and also a little competitive, which makes it fun.
Paul told us how important it is to buffet our bodies.
But [like a boxer] I buffet my body [handle it roughly, discipline it by hardships] and subdue it, for fear that after proclaiming to others the Gospel and things pertaining to it, I myself should become unfit [not stand the test, be unapproved and rejected as a counterfeit]. (1Corinthians 9:27) AMP
It has been several years since I have worked out like this. Getting back into the routine can be grueling but refreshing. What good would it be if I worked out only when I wanted to? What good is to eat right only when I want to? It is no benefit to me.
Many of us treat our spiritual walk that way. We partake of spiritual food only when it is convenient. Sunday morning seems to be the only time we really need to eat. What if we did that to our physical body? We would become ill pretty quickly. Likewise, the body of Christ is not in good health spiritually. We do not understand the necessity of spiritual food daily. Our bodies need not only be buffeted physically, but spiritually. I believe, now, more than ever that the church as a whole needs to get in shape. We are nearing the time when we will desperately need to be in good shape, mentally, physically and spiritually. We cannot get in shape if we only work on it when we feel like it.
I asked Cher why she worked out so much. Her response was, "I have found out that this is what my body needs to get in shape." Her answer was not, "Oh, I love to work out everyday for several hours!" Cher has developed the discipline it takes to get the results she wants. Many of us dream of becoming spiritual giants, but unless we take time to meditate on Gods Word daily, we will never get a grip on our appetite for the things of this world.
I want to encourage you. You can become physically fit without being spiritually fit. However, when you become spiritually fit, it is easier to become physically fit. You have more strength to buffet your body correctly and not give in to the temptations of unnecessary food or anything else that might not be healthy for you. There is even a weight loss program that focuses on this concept.
As the body of Christ, and God's temple, it is critically important to strive to be spiritually and physically fit. As we discipline ourselves to take care of our bodies spiritually every day, we will then enable ourselves to become more physically disciplined. Need a little boost to get in shape? Start with a daily serving of God's Word.
