Here is the difference.
There is a difference between the world and Christians.
This is the worlds way.
At a crossroads in the countryside, there stood a temple wherein was enshrined a statue of god carved in wood.
One day, a man was pursuing his way when he saw a ditch before him. So he removed the statue from the temple and put it down lengthwise to span the ditch. He stepped on it and crossed over. Then another man came along. Unable to bear the sight of the statue lying in the ditch, he propped it up and carrying it back to the temple restored it to its pedestal. Thereupon the god accused of him of failing to burn incense and at once cursed him with a splitting headache.
Bewildered, all the lectors of the Purgatory Judge asked the god: "The man who trod on you had gone unpunished; yet the man who helped you up has been cursed with a headache. Why?"
"Well," the god explained, "you ought to know that the kindhearted people are the ones you can bully."
Isn’t that true?
People in the world believe kindhearted people are weak and stupid. Therefore, it is perfectly acceptable to use them and abuse them.
Think about a class assignment where you work in teams. You do all the work while another sits there and tex messages. When the high grade is given the slacker takes all the credit and accuses YOU of being the slacker. You see somebody in the check out line with two or three items. Being kindhearted you let them go in front of you. Suddenly there is a stampede to but in front of you. You help a newcomer feel welcome and help them learn their job. Then they stab you in the back to try to get a raise at your expense. Someone pretends to be your friend because they want something from you. When they have gotten what they want they throw you away like yesterdays garbage. That is the way of the world.
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10 New International Version
Do you see that?
One: When we become Christians it is not to sit on our butts and wait for Jesus to take us to Heaven. It is to get out there in our homes, community, school and workplace to do good works.
Two: How do we know where to go and what to do?
When we are Christians the Holy Spirit guides us to places God has already prepared for us to go and to do the works He has already prepared for us to do.
Yes, there are many non-Christians who are big hearted. The difference is that we perform our good works not only out of kindness, compassion and concern BUT we also do it to glorify God.
Prayer: Oh Jesus my treasured friend, teach me to love as You love me. Let Your healing, comforting and assuring love flow through me like a cool mountain stream in a hot desolate desert. In Your gracious name I pray. Amen.
May the sunshine of Jesus’ sweet love bless you today and every day.
