Poetry
When a suicide
Falls into heaven
I need you not to tell them
All the ways they are cowards
And sinners
And unworthy of your forgiveness
Your freely-given love
I need you just
To hold them
And silence the loneliness
That beats inside their hearts
With your kiss
I need you to say
‘You are my child
And you matter
And I will love you
Long after the stars burn out’
But here’s the rub
I need you to say it
Before they fall
