When Our Ways Please God
Isaiah 55:6-9
Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near; Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways, my ways, said the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
God is telling us today that we should:
1. Forsake our ways and follow after righteousness
2. Trust him more, think less
God is representing to us his sovereignty, his thoughts, his intentions, purposes, and ways. Why?
The Law of God is the extension of God’s nature and it expresses God’s will in creating us. The Law of God is expressed in different ways, as it related to the different areas of creation.
The Physical Law
Includes the laws of nature which govern the continuous physical existence of this world
The Moral Law
Also called the perfect law of liberty, according to James 1:25 governs the immaterial issues of life (II Tim. 3:17)
The Social Law
This law affects interpersonal relationship and summarized as the royal law (James 2:8)
The Spiritual Law
This law deals with man’s relationship with God, summed up in the first and great commandment (Matt. 22:37), thou shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with thy mind
The purpose of the law is
1. To reveal God’s sovereignty
2. To place a restraint on the sinner
3. To show the greatness and reality of sin
4. To lead the sinner to Christ
The purpose of the law is still true today, and when we see wrong and think wrong we will see the law as being erroneous. We should be concerned to live decently and orderly in this life and that by committing our ways, and our thoughts to God.
When our ways please God, we can be successful according to Joshua 1:8
The book of the Law shall not depart out of thy mouth (when you keep the law), but thou shall meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein, for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous and then thou shall have good success.
When our ways please God, then we shall walk on that straight and narrow highway according to Isaiah 35:8
And a highway shall be there and a way, and it shall be called the way of holiness, the unclean shall not pass over it, but it shall be for those, the wayfaring men, though fools shall not err therein.
When our ways please God:
1. We won’t ask God, why have thou forsaken me, we’ll know that he is there and we’re just going through a test.
2. Why art thou so far from helping me, we will know that he will answer.
3. We will cry sometime, but we know that he’ll wipe our tears away.
4. When our father and mother forsake us, that he’ll be a parent to us, he’ll be what we need.
5. We trust God, because we know unconditionally that he will deliver us
6. We don’t care how much people laugh at our calamities, because we know our calamities are stepping-stones to our purposes.
7. Though we are persecuted, we know God’s truth and he will avenge us.
When our ways please God we can love our enemies, we can refuse to be a walking garbage disposal. Our good can be evil spoken of, but we know that the kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Ghost.
When our ways please God, we can stand with assurity and say as Job said, though he slay me, yet will I trust him, but I will maintain my own ways before him.
I exhalt you today, to seek the ways of God, find that highway and stay on it!
God is representing his sovereignty, his thought, his intentions, purposes, and ways. His directions are higher than ours. Although we think we know God, do we really know him, do we think we can comprehend his mind. He presents his intentions, purposes, his love, and directions to us through his word and his word sometime, we can’t comprehend, but it’s the only thing that will stand with him and until we learn to forsake our ways, we cannot please God. God is not pleased with us in our flesh we have to deny the flesh, that is our mind, will and emotions. We have to follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, where unto thou art also called, and have professed a good profession before many witnesses. Righteousness exalts a nation. God will raise you up. He will bring you to a place of contentment. Shun the love of money, and the striving for material wealth, pursue righteousness, practical correctness, conforming to God in one’s thinking and actions. Trust God more and think less. Psalms 37:3-8 tells us to trust in the Lord and do good, so shalt thou dwell in the land and verily thou shall be fed. Delight thyself also in the Lord and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord, trust also in him and he shall bring it to pass, and he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light and thy judgment as the noonday. Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for him, fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass, cease from anger and forsake wrath, fret not thyself in any wise to do evil. David is expressing to us that the wicked prosper but it is short lived. God will intervene in his time. It seems to us that they are doing good, but that’s why we have to forsake our thoughts so that we will see that what we see, God is going to judge and we won’t follow it to do it. We’ll hold to righteousness and be blessed in God’s time. Hold fast our faith, thereby trusting God, thinking less. We can have peace of mind, not fretful, nor envious. We can trust in God, do good, delight thyself also in the Lord, commit to his way, rest, cease from anger, forsake wrath and fret not while we are waiting. Look at the mindset of this. We are peaceful with godly contentment.
God is calling us to a higher place in him.
