1 John 5
Verse 3 "Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome."
Serving God is one thing, loving God is another. A slave can serve their master, but not every slave loves their master. God is our Master, we are slaves of Christ. We are not bound in chains, we are not beaten when we commit mistakes or rejected because of who we are. God indeed loves his people, those who serve him. However, do we truly love God? To love God doesn't mean to shout out the sentence, rather to live out the sentence. "Which sentence?" you may ask. The "I love God!" one that come out the lips of many. I strongly believe there is nothing wrong in saying we love God as it comes out our mouths, however it should also come out our lives.
How can we proof we love God? How can we prove that our love for God is true? One word, "obedience." The word that leads to God's treasures & God's will. The word of God isn't only the manuel for the Christian but also the example a Christian must follow. The word is the bread we should eat, the life we should speak. God's commandments should never be a burden. If so, we do not carry the right attitude in the backpack of our life. We must stop, and take a look of what we obtain because it could be something we don't need and it could also be slowing is down. God will teach us to obey him as he taught Moses. Moses had much work to be done in him, but don't we all?
Verse 21 "Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God's place in your hearts."
The difference between a Christian and the world is that God takes first place in the believer. That is how it should be, we function best when God is. The goal shouldn't only be for God to "be" number one in our lives but also that he "stays" as number one in our lives.
First place can be lost easily, it all depends on the runner. Take a look at olympic runners. Many are running side by side, and they all aim for first place. However, there is one in the race who has first already. If one status focused, first place can be maintained. And so it is the same in our lives. If we stay focus, God can be first place in our life. We run and train to win.
If there is something or someone in our life that has been taking our time and thoughts the majority of the time instead of God, we should do some switching. Its unsafe for any believer and it does not advance but worsens.
