The Spirit of The Mind
Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore brethren by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God which is your reasonable service and be not conformed to this world; but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable, and perfect will of God.
Colossians 3:1-3 if ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on thins above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead and your life is hid with Christ in God.
Within man is a mind. When that mind has been submitted to the Will of God, that person’s mind is spiritual. Spiritual mindedness is that disposition and resolution implanted in the mind by the Holy Spirit, through which one willingly and gladly inclines to love, delight in and to attend Spiritual things. The spiritual-minded highly appreciate spiritual blessings, to pursue spiritual objectives; to be led by spiritual motives; and in all respects, to allow the temple of the purified heart to control and direct his life. The reward is spiritual joy, and a life of good report.
Within the mind of man are perception, judgment, wisdom, and intellect. Other than his mentality are his intentions; inclinations and determination. We obey from the mind. We give heed to life’s decisions in our mind. Our behavior is associated with what goes into our minds. What we attend to and give regard to happens in our mind. How objective we are determines how much we will complain in live, deplore and dislike. As a young child I use to hear Jesse Jackson with Operation P.U.S.H. say a mind is a terrible thing to waste. Over the last five years I have come to realize what is meant by that statement. If you don’t use your mind on a daily basis you can lose it. I found this to be true. I had been off work for about six months, medicated on a daily basis and needed people to help me. I woke up one morning and couldn’t remember what day of the week it was. I had been in the Word but I had no balance. The natural mind and spirit mind must work together to prosper in life.
We need God to change our mind that we obtain the mind of the spirit. We must allow God to put us in contact with His Spirit. We must be put in trust with the gospel through our minds. We can only speak the Word coming out of our mind. We forsake pleasing man but rather we please God when our minds have been renewed in the Spirit. We keep the Word in our minds and hearts when we obey God. We give heed to the Word because the Spirit of our mind will not lead us wrong or astray. We are ambassadors for Christ and reconciled to God through the mind of the Spirit. We shall love the Lord our God with all our heart and with all our soul, our mind and with all our strength. This is the first commandment and the second is like it; thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself.
We need to be renewed in our mind, present our body a living sacrifice, live holy that God is pleased so our lives are acceptable to the Lord. This is a personal relationship that only the person held accountable to it can have; it’s all men reasonable service for all God has done for us. We are not to be conformed to this world, but adapt our lives to the Word of God. We are not to accommodate sin but be reconciled to God and come in agreement with His Word. We have the perfect example in Christ Jesus that we must have resemblance to. There must be a similar lifestyle, obedience and submission to all that God has required of us that we come in compliance to the Word. If the Word says something to us to do there should be a corresponding action to show forth the love we have for the Father.
When we come to Christ we alter our lifestyle to meet the need of our spirit man. The Holy Spirit helps us to transform and transfigure into the converted Christian we have become. We now learn how sin is to be commuted in our lives. We change death for life, sin for holiness, our make up for Christ make up, our mutability for God’s immutability, unrighteousness for righteousness, nastiness for cleanliness and make up our minds to go the distance for Christ. We are to be transformed by the renewing of our mind that we obtain the mind of Christ. God has granted to us according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man that Christ may dwell in our hearts by faith; that we be rooted and grounded in love for Him.
The Spirit of the mind proves what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God is to us. We are renewed in the spirit of our mind so that we can let the mind of Christ be in us. A warning is given us that we be not high minded or puffed up, but sober in the mind. We are to cultivate the spirit of our mind that it grows and develops in Christ. The Spirit of the mind in the Holy Ghost leads and guides man through the terrains of life. The Spirit of the mind never exaggerates the truth. We observe all that God is and all things that He created with respect. The Spirit of the mind sees Christ as the Head of the Church. The Spirit of the mind speaks to us of the way we are to relate one to another on every level. All of our relationships must be regulated. We are led to behave ourselves wisely before unbelievers.
The Spirit of the mind helps us to never cease to pray, helps in our desire to be filled with the knowledge of His Will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding that we might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God. We are to be strengthened with all might, according to God’s glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness giving thanks to the Father which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of those that are sanctified. The fullness of the Spirit must dwell in our hearts and minds. We are to be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sits on the right hand of God. In the Spirit of our mind we can go to God and He hears us. If we look to God the author and finisher of our faith we will find that the things we desire will be more heavenly things.
Our affections change. We realize that we are dead to the world and our life is hid in God through Christ Jesus. We have put on the new man which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him. Therefore we put on as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering, forbearing one another and forgiving one another and if any man have a quarrel against us forgive them as Christ forgave man.
God’s Word is to dwell in us richly and this is by way of the mind. We gain wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in our hearts by way of the Spirit of our mind. Whatever we do in word or deed we do it in the name of the Lord Jesus by way of the Spirit of our mind. We give thanks to God and the Father by Jesus Christ giving us a renewed mind. We obey in all things by the Spirit renewed in our mind giving us a singleness of heart fearing God for we were made for good works. We are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. When our minds is renewed we are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and of the household of God.
