I look very much like my father. If you saw us standing side by side, you would immediately see the similarity. There is no mistaking that I am my father's son. I look just like him. People who know my father tend to tell me that it is obvious that I am his son.

The disciples once asked Jesus to show them the Father (John 14:8). Jesus responded by saying that anyone who had seen him had seen the father (John14:9). There was no mistaking that Jesus was God's son. Jesus looked just like God. Not in a physical sense, but in a spiritual sense. Jesus did what God the Father told him to do (John 14:10). Jesus did what he saw his father doing (John 5:19). Jesus mimicked what his father did and said just as human sons mimic their fathers.

It is God's desire that his children look just like him. This begs the question: How do we do that? How do we look like Father God? First off, we must be a child of God the Father in order to look like him. Children resemble their own parents, not the parents of someone else. You cannot be a child of God if you have not accepted Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior. It is the only way that we can become a child of God.

Second, we must do and say what God our Father does and says. James 2:17 (NIV) says "In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead." Faith is how we come into a relationship with God and become his children. Action (or works as some translations use) is how we look like the Father. Our actions; or works, is how we do what God is doing, and how we say what God is saying. Jesus did what God did and said what God said and therefore looked just like God. The same applies to us.

We only have two choices for spiritual fathers. We can choose God or we can choose the devil. If you want to know which one a person has chosen, look at how they are living and listen to what they are saying. If a person is living in sin, his spiritual father is devil. We look like our spiritual father whether we realize it not. Unfortunately, we are born in sin, and our spiritual father is the devil. We must accept Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior in order to leave the devil's family and become adopted into God's family. When this happens, God becomes our father and we become his children. We then begin the process of shedding our old sins and accepting God's holiness. We begin to do what he wants and say what he wants in order to look like him.

When I die and go to heaven, I want people to see me standing side by side with God and immediately see the similarity. I want there to be no mistaking that I am my Father's son. I want look just like him. I want it to be obvious that I am his son. What about you?
