In my professional career, I was blessed to have worked in Law Enforcement. A challenging, difficult, and sometimes heartbreaking career. I have worked in Corrections where I supervised serial killers, rapists, murderers, and crooks of all kinds. My life education was sped up in those early days, as I had not been exposed to things I saw in the jail and prison.
Most of the people I dealt with over the course of the 18 plus years of my career were lost in a Spiritual sense. They were addicts of all types, they stole, manipulated people, and had no sense of morality or of God. We were always busy, but there were times where I had time to listen to their stories. Most were hard to listen to and digest. They told me tales of child abuse, being abandoned by one or both parents, and sometimes victims of sex abuse.
Listening to those stories made me realize that there was an opportunity to minister to these people. I tried my very best to reach as many people as I could, and would like to think that I made a difference in some of their lives. There were several officers that were also Christians, so we would talk about God and how our chosen profession made being a Christian hard at times.
The is a great need for a ministry to our nation’s law enforcement officers. Knowing Jesus definitely makes the job easier. While doing some research for one of my articles, I found a Christian Organization for cops. This ministry combines Christianity and law enforcement. It is called the Fellowship of Christian Peace Officers. The FCPO’s vision is to provide the vision to significantly influence the U.S. Criminal Justice System for Christ.
The FCPO provides a strategy for reaching those around you with the Gospel of Jesus. Tools to conduct an effective personal and chapter ministry. Courage to share the gospel with those you care for most… your family, fellow officers and others. The men and women of law enforcement are God’s Armor Bearer’s, and they deserve the chance to worship God with their fellow officers.
The FCPO is a needed ministry for police officers. It provides a Christian atmosphere to help officers deal with stress, and horrific sights that come on a daily basis. Most of all it fosters an environment of good will towards all men. Something that is lacking in our society today. You can find a link to their website at the beginning of this post. If you go by tell them that Jeff from Christian Views Today sent you. God bless.
