HEART BREAK

He promised me with his tears of emotion
To love me and be there with great care
I wrote him a letter and sent it over there
And somehow now I have a notion
He had another he loved more than me
Now my heart is broken, not much to share.

If this be true, may they grow in affection
Like lovers of long, long ago
Attaining a much higher perfection
As their true love grows
Remaining in love’s recollection
Their hearts filled, the light overflows.

As for me and my heart broken so
I will have to find another
This time I will go slow
Let me love you like no other
My heart I will give and show
A promise to you, I won’t smother.
