Devotionals
God has a very different way of looking at things. What at times, seems illogical to us, is actually factual. In our dog eat dog world, we call self-preservation, old-fashioned common sense. Those who climb the ladder to success, reach the top, rake in the cash, are the winners.
Should the poor bemoan their standing? Do those of great wealth boast in their bounty? “Let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation, and the rich in his humiliation, because like the flower of the grass he will pass away (James 1:9-10 RSV).” Success can be short lived. “So will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits (James 1:11b RSV).”
There are godly men and women from both sides of the tracks. Wealth can be either a blessing or a curse. It is easier to recognize our dependence on God, in the lean times. Those with a great deal of money, and big hearts, are often instruments of mercy to those less fortunate. When God exalts the humble, they look up to Him with gratitude, and down, to those they can help.
