WHAT YOU CAN LEARN FROM FISHING
Early in our married life, Mike and I would go fishing. One of those occasions vividly comes to mind.
It was in the springtime of the year in 1986. We lived in an apartment complex, which had a pond by the clubhouse. That Saturday morning we decided to go fishing and to take our little black dog, Teddy. He was a cocker/dachshund mix and full of energy. Around the pond were ducks and other birds that Teddy chased. He had the most carefree attitude running just as hard as he could. Mike and I could not help being amused and laughed at him.
As we walked around the pond looking for a place for Mike to fish, I noticed some Mother ducks nesting, and some leading their baby ducks into the pond for a lesson in swimming. I soon was thinking, how relaxing it is to go fishing. Not just that, but I noticed the beauty the natural world.
Finally Mike had a hit on the bait of his fishing pole. He pulled the line up, and there was a tiny crab. We noticed that Teddy saw the crab and slowly, yet cautiously, walked up to it. My husband laid down the fishing pole to see what Teddy would do. All of the sudden, he run up to the crab, and the crab pinched him on the nose. The dog didn’t like that one bit, and started barking and circling the crab. This went on for about ten minutes, and Mike put the crab back into the pond. Needless to say, our laugher was insatiable.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself that day, while learning something meaningful. Don’t let life get too stressful or busy before you take some time to enjoy and relax in the beautiful earth that God made. Put all those burdens and worries in His hands because He knows just how to handle them. Take time to smell the flowers, and hear the birds sing.
